Winterheart's Guild was the last album of their's I got before this one. If it had been my first it would probably have been my favorite, but because I was already so used to SA by the time I got WG it just didn't have that big of an impact on me. I suppose I even like Unia better, but I think Unia's pretty awesome.

Unia does rule, but it needs to grow on you, much like this release.

Never really cared that much about S.A, just some spins of their Winterheart's Guild, and that's it. However, I had the chance of listening to TDOFG, and started to love it. It grows with each listening, and while not having the common double bass attack, and solos that most Power Metal bands have, it surely has some of the most beautiful melodies I've ever heard in a power metal album.

it's a fairly common observation that from Unia on, theyre more progressive metal, with power metal influences.
theyre expanding their sound, and people dont want them to mature.

I don't think this album deserves all these 2's If i'm to be honest. Given, they have changed since Ecliptica, but i'd give half the blame to the new guitarist. Unia and Days Of Grays are the first 2 albums featuring the new guitarist, and clearly he is more of a proggresive guitarist. But is this change so bad?
I feel like the people are getting mixed up between different and bad. Firstly, Juliet is a good song, the vocal performance was great, that's one thing you can't take away from Sonata Arctica, thier vocalist is simply amazing and has a wide range.
Even though they sound more progressive, there is still the melody in the songs that leave you humming along. Bottom line, it's different but it's not bad, I am enjoying the progressive change, but i guess this change is a Love Or Hate thing. In the end this album is still 1000x better than other albums out there.

Saw them live yesterday, and damnit, they're good. Tony has a lot of charisma. Seriously, it was easily the most fun concert I've been to thus far (Mago de Oz, Epica, Metallica and Megadeth being the others I've been to). I just wish they had played a little more of Reckoning Night, but otherwise, it was awesome. What they played from this album kicked ass. And the rest too. Fuck yeah.

They really went downhill after Jani left.
The guitars are dowright shameful, both in production and in execution and ideas (there's only bland chords and retarded palm muted riffs... this is a "more progressive guitarist"? Really? WTF????), and there costantly are 200 Tony Kakkos singing horrible melodies whch all sound the same at you. Keys provide by-the-numbers symphonic backing, and drums have never been Sonata's strong point so there's nothing new here. And the bass is of course nonexistent.
This is Unia part 2, and just like its predecessor, it sucks.

I agree with the guitar parts, they're boring and repetitive, and that also happened while Jani was in the band.
However SA nowdays is much more than the guitars, they're there just for the sake of rhythm and heaviness. I realized the more SA evolve the less they worry about guitars, I don't mind really.

Something wrong with this band, G3N3R1C?
Anyway, It would be really sad if this band became cool to hate because some people dislike the direction they're taking. I can understand how people might enjoy this album to a lesser extend a bit, because the songwriting can be a bit of a roller coaster. But Unia for example was a solid as fuck release that just took the band to a totally different place, which made a lot of people freak and therefor hate. It's uncalled for.
This concludes the rant of today.

^I'm quite happy that I'm not in need of being a troll.
I think this album is underrated. I understand the reactions, because when I listened to it the very first time I was also like what the hell! But I listened to it a few more times and I love it! When you know what to expect, it's a really solid release. I guess Flag In The Ground was a very bad choice as a lead single, as the song has completely nothing to do with the rest of the album.
I think my favorite is The Truth Is Out There. Killer track.

At the risk of sounding like a SA fanboy, I love this album as much as the rest, if not better! Eagerly awaiting what they have next.

This is definitely up there. Not quite as good as Reckoning or Winterheart's imo but better than the rest.

Last Amazing Grays, the title track, has one of the most wonderful choruses I have heard from Sonata Arctica. The harmonic progression topped with just the right melody in the chorus is nothing short of magnificient.
