How do the vocals on previous albums compare to this?

Vocals on this are about the same as on their last 2 albums. This is better than Blackhawks Over LA (too much layering on that disc), but not as good as Exile In Oblivion. There's some more harsh vocals on Exile too, so take that as you will. I feel Exile is his best performance of any album.

I'm very happy that 2 Punk albums made it into my Top 10, none in my Top 5 though. If you count the AWS ep you could say 3 made it into my Top 10. Also The Lawrence Arms ep released a month ago was pretty great too, just outside the Top 10.

It's all opinion and depends on what you're looking for. There are things that I like about RA's music that I can't find in Strung Outs, and vice versa. I tend to enjoy them equally, but from a technical and musicianship standpoint...yeah Strung Out are better/more impressive. Both bands are outstanding songwriters tho.
