I liked this way more than Vena Sera. It's nothing particularly innovative or groundbreaking obviously, but I just love their sound. Even if they do it to death.

Mixed opinions I see, but the ones that agree with Jake seems to be the respectable, mature listeners of music rather then the scornful and unexperienced.

It's great how a lot of the people who like this review cannot see anyway that anyone could possibly not find it amazing. It's basically more Chevelle, which, if you like them, is good and if you don't like them or their past stuff, is not going to make you like them any more.

I almost feel like giving this a 1.5 because of that ludicrous average rating.

Just out of sheer curiosity, how many times have you listened to this?
Lets not make this out to be a grower band. These guys are simply a one listen event; enough to know whether you like them or not.

These guys have been spewing generic hard rock since This Type of Thinking.... What's so hard to get into?

they kinda always were...possibly.
But they had a good mix/sound with Pete's vocals/heavy guitars. Plus his oddball
lyrics.
Wonder What's Next and Vena Sera for me were instant liking to first listen. Sci-fi (as well as this type) took me a few listens to find something likeable.
I hated this on first listen, but 2nd around it wasn't so bad. But it's still bland.

and the only reason the score is so high is because the number of fanboys that are jizzing themselves to this is much higher than the numbers of everyone else listening.

Listen to Point #1 and Wonder What's Next. That might change your mind.

I always want people to argue with me, hence making for some interesting conversation in which maybe someone can shed some light on something I haven't figured out yet ; ). I will admit, I downloaded this (which is rare) because I wasn't exactly sure. Album just bored me.

WOW that is a stupid comment. If you like the Album , you like the album. If you dont, then you dont. There is no "EXPERIENCE" when it comes to music.
It doesnt take someone who's been listening to music for 50 years to enjoy a record.
The Circus, best Chevelle song to date

This album doesn't grow on you, you devolve into liking it is what happens.

not bad at all, I agree that this doesn't really grow on you, but it's good as what it is - a good hard rock album.

I gave this enough time to grow on me but it did the opposite

this album is very sensitive towards overplay, when you spin it too much, it does get old quickly, but if you give it about 1-3 spins in a week, it still stays pretty fresh and enjoyable.
