haha...suffice it to say: we hate the both of 'em.

we're more of an alternative/punk band, maybe? idk if that's a valid genre or not...maybe we could be the pioneers! lol. i personally play kinda moodier stuff...usually blues-influenced acoustic guitar. but yes i quite enjoy it.

and that's funny about those swell-cams. my dad occasionally watches San Diego surfcams...he used to kick around out there, so i think he misses it haha.

Most bands make up their own genres nowadays, so I can't see why you can't.

"They sure are... well New Zealand close enough I guess. "

Well, they base themselves in Melbourne nowadays. Plus, they are one of many NZ acts up for Channel V's "Oz Artist of the Year" Award. LOL.

Staffy, do you work at all? Or is Sputnik secretly paying you for your contributions, because I have no idea how you find time to review so much

Look who's talking. You've moved ahead of me in number of comments & haven't exactly been idle in the reviewing department of late.

But yeah, I do work. As I said, I "should" be slowing down a little now. Although, I may begin picking up the dregs that no-one else does. In other words; Pop, here I come.

Yeah, it was a great night Dougie.

Being picky, I still think they need to reduce the heaviness of most of their show. I know they have to appeal to the audience they have in front of them, but with the exception of their heavier songs (Godspeed, Feel Good Drag, The Resistance, etc...), I think they could mix their sound down a little to spotlight Stephen's voice. Take a song like 'Hello Alone' as a perfect example. I thought it sounded rather ordinary live.

I actually feel that 'Cities' & 'New Surrender' are about equal as albums, but there is no doubt that the 'Cities' songs sound better live. 'The Unwinding Cable Car', 'Dismantle. Repair' & of course '(*Fin)' were godly.

So i assume they didn't play fin live then? Yeah it would make more sense to try and vary it up, and I know this if of on a different tangent, but ABR mainly played song of messengers, and only 2 of Constellations which is similar to what you are saying between Cites and New Surrender...

"...& of course '(*Fin)' were godly." They DID play it as the lone encore song. Sounded fantastic.

"...which is similar to what you are saying between Cites and New Surrender... "

No, it's not. They played quite a few songs off of 'New Surrender'. My point was that while I think the albums are equal, the songs from 'Cities' sounded better live. It probably doesn't help that they don't play 2 of my 'New Surrender' faves ('Haight St.' & 'Burn Out Brighter').

Oh sorry in my study haze I completely misread your post! Wow, fin must have been fantastic. Yeah I see what you mean.. So maybe the should just keep touring Cities then hey?

They were only 'eh' at Soundwave this year. And why would they play Adelaide live? It's a horrible song.
