Darkthrone and Amon Amarth actually write good riffs. This band keeps recycling the same boring and weak melodic leads. Really, tbh none of their albums really stand out (not even STDIACD). I liked these guys for about a month after I heard them and then I realized they were boring and uninspired. Not to mention I'm starting suspect that they're going try and go the In Flames route and slowly make poppier albums until they land a spot of Guitar Hero.

Disagree with the review completely. Maybe the same sound as their previous records, as in dark &
melancholic, but certainly not the same. This is easily their best album.

@Eakflanderyof: Please, that's the biggest shit I've ever heard. Poppy? Are you referring to the
clean vocals? Their sound hasn't let up. Clean vocals =/= poppy. This band would never make it to the
mainstream of metal and survive. I'm not even a big Insomnium fan, but that sounds like a bunch of
shit. Amon Amarth don't write the best music, either. Half of TOTTG is filler.

He wasn't referring to anything they did in particular on this album, except that fact its majorly watered down melodic death metal which mostly aimed to a more mainstream audience.

basically melodeath is the most accessible and least interesting subgenre of extreme metal

ha ha melodeath used to be my favourite genre, it's pretty stale now though. Only DT and Hypocrisy really do anything for me now

45 minutes of climatic monotony with as much pacing as a charging rhino.

lrn2readingcomprehension

I knew some idiot would accuse me of attacking their clean vocal approach. That has nothing to do with my argument so quit putting words in my mouth. I said I suspect they may try and go the In Flames route. Nobody would've thought that of In Flames back in the TJR and Whoracle days. And yes, melo-death is generally the most watered down genre of metal and the closest to the mainstream.

I just make all these comparisons because of Insomnium's predictable as hell songwriting. They're boring these days. They've made it known that they have no new ideas to bring to the table and they don't have good enough riffs to make up for the lack of originality.

And Amon Amarth isn't my favorite band, but they slaughter Insomnium in the kickass metal band and riff-writing category. They're far more MANLY than you and Insomnium combined.
