Origin rely's heavily on the sweep picking and super-sonic speed. However this album rules pretty hard in terms of actual song-writing and memorable moments. I've listened to both Faceless albums a number of times and I can't remember a damn thing. I do agree though, instrument knowledge does play into forming an opinion of an album.

I'm only judging this band after I saw them live
I couldnt make out anything that was being played
It was like one big wall of noise and blastbeats that were about to make my head explode

No surprise there hahahaha. Give this a listen, you might be pleasantly surprised. Sometimes bands write good albums and are horrible live.

and Crysis Hatebreed have some of the most violent mosh pits around but that doesn't make them any good does it?

People who enjoy Hatebreed to that extent usually have a pretty shitty opinion about metal anyways hahahaha. I've seen them live and I enjoyed them (hugh moshpit too).

I'll still check this out though. Didnt think I would like Every Thing Is Fire but I keep going on youtube to listen to it.
Just don't like when people judge a band by how big a mosh pit they have. Kinda makes their opinion void when judging how well the band actually plays.

So do Lamb of God and they suck too. My argument wasn't that shitty band's don't have mosh pits, it was that The Faceless were so bad at working the crowd and getting them riled up (with both their music and what the vocalist did to engage the crowd in between) that it was almost funny.
I've heard both of their albums numerous times as well, so this is not an opinion based off a one-time live set critique.

well how well did they actually play?

Compared with their studio albums (which are pretty average imo) they did an awful job. The vocals were put far too high and it washed out the guitars. The bass was more or less left to fend for itself. Their vocalist didn't sound very good, it seemed like he was putting too much strain on his vocal chords. The drums did almost nothing but blast beat the entire time.

sounds disappointing

It really was because their ratings are pretty decent on this site so I hoped a good live show would sort of change my opinion on them, but it actually made it worse. It was fine though, because 3 Inches of Blood, In Flames and BTBAM put on a good show.
|
| |
nice, hopefully when I see em they wont be that bad
saw In flames with Gojira last year and BTBAM with Dream Theater last year, both awesome shows
|
| |
BTBAM almost reminded me of seeing Opeth because of the huge volumes of fanboys, but it still surprised me how good their live show is. In Flames was just great.
|
| |
Opeth was on that bill too, prog nation tour
the whole show was jizzworthy

Christ this is some mad stuff

Wow! I got the hell negged out of this review, lol. Didn't realize so many people really loved this album. Damn! I still can't manage to get into this, even after months from writing this review. I still think one of the biggest problems is the way the vocals were mixed. It's just so shitty sounding! This band might as well just be an instrumental Tech Death band. I think they would succeed much more if they did that.

Antithesis Full-length, 2008 [19 reviews, average 85%] from metal-archives, album is praised a lot, just not round these parts cause we have sense! iirc last year the average was 96% or something ridiculous like that
album is good tho, just not like amazing or anything

Yea, the album is certainly not terrible. It's just ridiculously average. I have never understood the praise for this. I still want to get my hands on Informis, Infinitas, Inhumanitas by them. I've heard it's their best. I swear, if the vocals are mixed louder, it will automatically make it better in my book.
