Yah, Ki is easily the best song on here. I'm not sure how i feel about the rest of the album, tho.

I'm "deeply moved" by your concern for my well-being. :o)

The thing I love about all this honest debate is that 'Ki' has made a lot of people re-consider what 'Heavy' actually means. Some people are sure they know. Perhaps they do. Perhaps their definition needed to be expanded.
Because 'Heavy' can also refer to emotional commitment and expression - and these things in ways that have nothing to do with ear-splitting volume.
And for the record (pardon the pun), I resent the living crap out of Devin's statement that I have no experience with or I don't know anything about 'Heavy' music. Devin doesn't know enough about my musical history to say that shit - and to say it over and over again in interviews!
I am also one of the first drummers in the history of Canadian Music to show up with a double kit - 1958!! And my biggest drum hero ever was/is Buddy Rich. And trust me, the speed he could create with one bass drum was astonishing. All you have to do, therefore, is imagine him with two bass drums. Or put another way, doubling what he created with one bass drum. You would get 1000+bpm easily! Thus, as fast or faster than the great Metal drummers of today - guys I respect enormously by the way.
But playing on 'Ki' was a highlight of my career. I loved the experience and Devin got to be 'Best Man' at my wedding. What more do ya want?! :o)

ps: 'Tone' and 'Feel' have a lot to do with 'Heavy' too. John Bonham certainly understood that in a big way.

^Cool of you to come and share your view. I agree on the heavy part. Album can be really heavy without being in the genre of metal, which I think is a different thing.
And yeah, listening to things Buddy Rich did so long time ago, it's incredible even by today's standards.
Love the drumwork on Ki, especially on the 'heavier' songs like Disruptr in fact. And I really like the fact how here the drumming goes with the dynamics of the surroundings. Sometimes, when I listen to metal bands and they have softer parts, you can still hear it's a metal drummer cause he's playing just as loud as in the metal parts. The dynamics are lacking.
So as I said, great job on Ki. Inspires me as a drummer.
