This band were awesome, love this nearly as much as Inle. How do you classify this? I know we don't need to label everything, but I'm just interested. This seems a lot closer to hardcore than post-metal but there's still some crossover.

I love the sorrowful melodies interspersed with tense ambience, sets you up nicely for the crushingly heavy passages.

I consider this album to be crust with a hint of post-metal on some tracks, though the band themselves usually refer to it as neo-crust

I was going to say 'crust' instead of hardcore, but it seemed ridiculous using a term I don't actually understand. I'm not entirely sure where crust comes from, my only point of reference would be early Neurosis (I love TWIL & Souls) but not even sure that's accurate.

Early Neurosis definitely was inspired by crust punk and I know the vocalist (Alex CF) in particular is in love with Neurosis. It can be a pretty broad genre, like most, so you're bound to find plenty of bands you'd enjoy. His Hero is Gone, Alpinist, early Downfall of Gaia, Oroku, Tragedy, Skitsystem, etc

Alex is also in a ton of bands that fall within the crust/post-metal realm.

Thanks. Yeah I'm definitely intrigued by this crust/post-metal combo.

I can't right now, but I will. Downfall of Gaia was my priority anyway, they have the coolest name, haha.

That's why I initially checked them out too lol. Their sound moved into a more black metal direction, which I'm not a fan of, but I really love Epos and their split with In the Hearts of Emperors

Crust is metal-influenced hardcore, usually branching out from early 80s d-beat pioneered by D I S C H A R G E

Also, I highly recommend giving His Hero is Gone's record Monument to Thieves a listen. Not post-metal at all but holy fuck, what a filthy record.

'Crust is metal-influenced hardcore'

Nice, this is starting to make sense. It's weird growing up & listening to two bands which have since grown to be amongst my favourites (Converge/Neurosis) & since realising they're significantly more closely related than I'd ever imagined. My teenage self wouldn't have believed it. Listening to something like this & I can hear elements of both bands.

Presumably if I want to learn more I should actually listen to Discharge then? (a band I'm aware of but never checked out).

And Thanks Xing.
