I ignored this album's release because I was anticipating the new record, but I listened to this today and its pretty amazing, which propelled me to join this site and warn others not to miss it. Its perhaps the ultimate Anathema record, with some classic tracks performed by the band at its peak. The improvement in the vocal department alone is enough to make it a must buy, let alone the reworked arrangements and improved production values. The tracks covered from their last couple albums are all better than the originals, while the others are at least on par.

I think they did this in Les Smith's studio. If this is the quality of the product resulting from that, I hope the next album will be done in his studio as well. I've also heard about Steven producing their next record, but I've yet to hear a confirmation from him. Its gonna be difficult as well considering PT is on tour this year. Doesn't really sound like they need a producer anyway, but it would be cool to hear Steven working with the band.

As far as the Radiohead comparisons, I don't think its completely warranted because they don't sound to much like them. Might be the expressive singing, but I fail to see any true similarities.

Anyway I know I'm late with this but I had to contribute. Great disc.

Better late than never. I've read that Steven Wilson already produced the album, and now it's just sitting for some reason.

Don't start with this; it's an acoustic version of a lot of their songs.

One Last Goodbye is somehow even more emotional than the studio version. How did they manage that?

are you there has really been hitting me hard lately with the death of my father

it's oddly comforting, they take such a cold, melancholic song and somehow make it so warm and homely

Vinny's vocals on One Last Goodbye are so incredibly frail and emotional.
