Yeah, I do like War From A Harlots Mouth.

And uh....I've seen After The Burial live twice. The first time, they were actually pretty good. But when I saw them at Thrash And Burn a week ago, their new vocalist sounded exactly like Mat Bruso, and their music was a lot less technical. They sounded like a completely different band. : |

So he wasn't their actual full-time vocalist?

Well, regardless, the instrumentation was nothing spectacular either, and the breakdowns all sounded the same. I was not impressed. = /

siqq burn bro, but seriously, 4.5 is a joke. These guys have potential to be that good if half their album wasn't a fucking breakdown

Couldn't agree more. That goes for plenty of other American bands going on these days (Veil of Maya, Winds of Plague, etc)

That doesn't mean they can't write a good album though.

Talent =/= songwriting. Do not forget that.

Pretty much. I definitely like VoM more than these guys. Their vocals fit so much better (than ATB's stale sounding vocalist), and their music is much catchier/more enjoyable.

Okay, I'm sick of these 40 year-old metal heads that masturbate to their Opeth and Meshuggah albums at night whine and complain about how ATB ruined there album with breakdowns. You guys are just trying to find excuses to ensure in your mind that bands like Meshuggah can never be touched with technicality. Yes, Meshuggah is a very good band and innovators for metal but calm down, a breakdown can add SO much contrast to a song. I find albums with riff after riff so boring, breakdowns add a break in that for a slowed down head bobbing part while listening at home or at a live show can add so much intensity...not to mention ATB's breakdown's are very catchy and creative, definitely not the run of the mill "chug chug". This is a very good "progressive/technical/metal" album. That's how I would personally label it.

If you say that the guitar or drum work is anything less then extremely talented then you obviously don't play an instrument or are very ignorant...or a god haha.

Yes, I do admit that sometimes a breakdowns can get repetitive in songs but I think that the ingenuity and creativity of the riffs totally counteract that. I think that this album was very well done and if you say that they aren't original...please find another metal album where you can find a song totally written in major "Ometh" or with an Egyptian flair, "Cursing Akhenaten"

The key word in that phrase is can. I love a good breakdown as much as the next guy, and I'm sure plenty of regulars on here know that. I'm just saying that the breakdowns on here rarely ever add anything that significant to the song. They don't take it to new heights, they're just there for the sake of being there.

and I'm not 40, and I don't like Meshuggah.

My ratings gonna go down for this. At first a lot of fun than just realizing it's just another talented but mediocre Meshuggah clone. Textures pummel this band without question and without mercy. On another note, what about the new Misery Signals Thor?

just because after the burial plays poly-rhythms and uses odd time signatures does not mean they are meshuggah rip offs. believe it or not, bands can be influenced by other bands.

other than the breakdowns, after the burial and meshuggah are totally different

Who gives a shit. Bands can be rip-offs, talented, untalented, homosexual, or agoraphobic and if they aren't writing good songs then you will run into people who are unimpressed.

For some reason I had the thought in my head that this band was to be avoided.

But this review tempted me to check their myspace.

And within the first 30 seconds of Aspiration, my jaw had dropped.

I'm getting this album ASAP
