Underrated round here.
There's like ten home runs on this, and it's the foundation of everything they ever did after.

man this is great. liking their evolution, like gutter was a more polished hot damn and this is a more polished gutter. a bit less chaotic and rough around the edges but catchier and more melodic. i do wish there was a touch more variety and the second half is definitely weaker but this is again just a damn fun time. keith's lyrics are just awesome, funny and memorable. great stuff.
my picks- inrihab (great hook and love the melody), we'rewolf, cities and years, rebel without applause, no son of mine

Hell yea glad you dug this one. Imo Depressionista is underrated, one of their best riffs

yeah that's the stuff i'm a bit less keen on haha. i hope that's not why i didn't like their last few albums! but will be interesting to see now that i love their early stuff.

IMO you can really break down their sound by pointing at three particular albums:
Hot Damn
The big Dirty
Ex Lives
To me those were the defining sounds. Every other album pushes and pulls in direction of one or the other.

Agreed, those were the distinct shifts in their sound. I love their southern fried party hardcore sound, this album shreds

yeah feels like the dropped that after new junk. i really like the party fun aspect. so still i'm iffy on the newer ones if i will dig them or not.

I'd say Ex Lives and From Parts Unknown (to a lesser degree) still have some of those elements, the big shift for me was with Low Teens. New Junk Aesthetic might be my favourite because it strikes a really good balance between the fun stuff and the moodier stuff.

yeah when i first listened to low teens i honestly hated it lol

It instantly clicked for me and I've loved it ever since, but I totally get why you wouldn't like it if you prefer this era of the band (and you could argue Low Teens was the beginning of the end for the band)

yeah i'm doing a discog jam for the first time. my first intro was from parts unknown and low teens years ago which i didn't like at all, then jammed hot damn which i love. now listening to the other stuff and really liking it! so i'm curious if my opinion will have changed.

That'll be interesting to see, going in order might give you a different perspective on those later albums
