Nine in the Afternoon, When the Day Met the Night, and Mad as Rabbits were the only worthwhile tracks in my opinion. Most of this CD is, as you said in your review, wanna-be Beatles bullshit, or a desperate grasp towards being something, anything, that they are not.

I agree with just about everything, although I'd take "Mad as Rabbits" off of your list in exchange for "That Green Gentleman." They definitely tried to be something they are not, and never can be, with this album.

It was a very immature move, this album, and really showed their age. Critics got the best of them and, as they recently admitted to BBC, they wanted to drop the "emo" tag that had been placed on them. So badly in fact that their solution was to do something they (and any other band really) could never do, which is properly channel the Beatles without sounding terrible. I'm hoping that before the next album they take some time off from trying to convince everyone that this album was actually good and write some songs that reflect what they are good at doing: brilliantly catchy and energetic pop punk.

All in all, the DEFINITION of a sophomore slump. This Message Edited On 07.10.08

Actually two people had just responded today before I posted that in case you didn't notice, but I'm sure you did and just wanted to be an asshole. Enjoy your day though.

this was actually good, they really tiredhard to not be mainstream and sound like the much inferior fall out boy. There sound as grown up a lot in the short amount of time, without changing the catchy lyrics that made the original album great. At some points in the album u get the same up lifting lyrics and music u would get in a beatles song.

I can't figure out why in hell my copy has different songs surrounding Folkin' Around. I think are actually are some really good lyrics on this album, but they're found in small fragments. Really small, phrases. The lines really don't piece together well for a lot of the album, jumping from one topic to a completely different one, usually with no attempt at a transition. It's almost like he knows exactly what he's singing about, but gives the listener very little insight.

P!ATD was one of the few bands that made it mainstream and that i still listened to. I crossed my fingers for their sophomore release hoping it would retain AFYCSO's style. Alas, this decrepit piece of crap found it's way into my CD player for two days as I tried to force it into my system. It is nothing like what they used to do. It was like a crappy foray into piano infused folk rock. WTF?

I thought it was a good review.

Most of it, sadly, is true, even though the old P!ATD were a huge part of thrusting me into the music I listen to now, their new album is wayyyyyyyyyy below par.

Though I didn't see you mention Northern Downpour, which is musically and lyrically tolerable. Hell, at least good.
