I'm not saying there isn't a lot of musicians pushing the boundaries, only I don't feel there's a lot that are heavily commercialized so they don't have as profound of an impact. I do feel the tides are turning though. From my humble perspective I see Mudvayne, MGMT, A Perfect Circle, Tool, Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, The Dave Matthews Band, Chris Cornell (despite screams), John Mayer (more so as time passes) and Kings of Leon as the creative leaders of their genres and are also making an important impression on American contemporary music.

I listen to a good variety of genres, although, rock/rock influenced music usually takes the biggest chunk of my listening time and that may show in the list I gave.

feel free to add to the list though

Not like you're reading this for feedback anymore but:

Don't listen to the haters, I thought the aforementioned "attempt at humour" was succesfully done.

I'm very late to the MGMT bandwagon, but I like this. Not perfect, but these guys have a shitload of potential. Too bad about all the hipster fans, tho.
