I had to put this album away for years after listening it to death for a while.. I just bough the 33 1/3 book on it and picked it up again for a re-listen before i read the book and it sounds just as good today as it did then. Some songs are still hard to enjoy fully as i have heard them just too many times. Organ donor is one of them, but the album as a whole is fantastic.. truly a 5/5.
Why all the talk about Mezzanine here? A great album as well, but not really comparable to this album in many ways, production wise or other? Not even in the same genre if you ask me.

They're the two major trip hop albums, so they're bound to get compared.

Probbly 4-4.5. It's not a classic for me yet.

But is this really a trip-hop album?
It might have been released in the midst of the trip hop era and attracted the same kind of people, but it is a lot different to the rest of the genre in general.
DJ Shadow himself never really liked the term either, and felt he was not part of the trip hop movement at all, as he was coming from a hip hop background and took his inspiration from old funk, jazz and psychedelia records. Not really trip hop as we know it is it?

other trip hop artist took inspiration from the same things, including hip hop.

I listened to this for the first time in a long while. It's pretty boring compared to most of the things I dig now. I know that its impact might make it important, but really.. I'm over it.

why do you think it's boring?

Few people who exist within a genre of music when it's new like the term that they're given. Doesn't mean it doesn't apply.

A lot of trip-hop is like that. This Message Edited On 02.17.08
