So i just saw them live last night, and f'uck, i have a whole new appreciation for this album. Like, these songs are MEANT to be played live. Went off.

Actually its indietastic here in Sydney atm. Klaxons, Kaiser Chiefs, Arctic Monkeys, Bloc Party are all here and playing shows. Even the Cure were playing two days ago. And I could only make it to one =( Although i might see the Kaisers tonite, =D This Message Edited On 08.04.07

This band have a great sound
This album is a bit patchy, but the first four songs make such a great run. Banquet is an indie classic without a doubt. Definitely one of the best bands and albums to emerge this millenium

a solid album but gets rather boring... i understand how they try to use luno at the end to speed things up.

This is about a 3.7 for me (which was funnily enough the average rating on this site at the time I rated it). 'Silent Alarm' is the best of Bloc Party's first 3 full-length releases and is an even listen from beginning to end, with practically no filler. There are also some moments of genius here, but it rarely manifests into individually great songs (which I personally find important). The other thing about this album which I find strange is the love for 'Banquet' which is good, but pretty much part of the pack for mine. 'Helicopter' is clearly the best song here.

If you ever get a chance, listen to the John Peel Session version of Compliments. Trumps the version on this...and Compliments on here is excellent.

Not sure how this review didn't mention the drumming even once. Superb drumming.

The only thing I don't like about this album is the low-mixed bass. It never really stands out, which is a shame since the instrument has so much potential in the genre.

Anywho, this is one of the most entertaining, danceable, fun albums I've ever heard and still freak out every time I hear it.

Never too late to give it a try, I suppose. I'll get a rating out in a week or so.
