What I like about these guys are they are easily the most unique black metal band. Burzum, Darkthrone etc seem to play the same riff throughout a whole song, while Enslaved add so much more variety while still being black metal. They are pretty much a black metal Opeth.

Havenless is easily the weakest song here imo.

A very stranger yet somehow satisfying album. I say this because, although 'Below the Lights' isn't always as accessible or 'catchy' as it seems, it still manages to be a damn good listening experience. The Enslaved that produced this album is certainly not the same as the one that produced albums like 'Vikingligr Veldi' and 'Frost' for sure, but the quality of the sound and atmosphere is still there. In particular 'Havenless' and 'Queen of Night' prove to be quite 'odd' and don't really fit in with the other songs, yet their uniqueness makes them stand out as they do. Opener 'As Fire swept clean the Earth' and the brilliant 'The Crossing' are both proof that Enslaved can use their talents to the best effects and make some truly outstanding music. This isn't quite the band's best album, but it is surely one of the most diverse they've ever done.
