This is very good but after several spins I'm not convinced it's really any better than the other post-ICLIH albums.

That one's a highlight but not better than the best on any of the previous albums.
I'm thinking people maybe overrated this one when it came out because it was the first Low album that wasn't notably weaker than the previous one, causing people coming to the band later to check this one out immediately after ICLIH instead of hearing the intervening albums first, perpetuating its overratedness.
Not to say it's bad by any means, it's a decent 3.5-4.

I must be the only person who prefers the two albums that came after ICLIH

"Starfire", "Violence", "Below & Above", "The Plan", "Over the Ocean", "Swingin'", "Do You Know How to Waltz" and probably a few others from the previous three albums all stand up to the best 5-6 here.

This was my first Low, then ‘Trust’ and tbh back then I was happy leaving it there with Low. Had them down as a 3-3.5 sorta level band.
The debut is what totally changed my opinion about them, one of the most fully formed debuts ever

Might've spoke too soon on this one, it's revealing itself as a real slowburner in a discog full of em.
I know you play your part
