Thanks for the spot XMII. The turnaround on this review was like 7 hours so there are bound to be little blips and errors.

And by the way, something nobody has noticed yet and I couldn't really fit into my review is that you can tell the last two tracks are the sonnets just musically. Thrice announced that the song in the first Alchemy Index trailer video was a sonnet. The ending of "The Flame Deluge" and "Kings Upon the Main" both have the same choral motif to close the song, which is also present in that first video. It's cool that in the sonnet form, each volta has the same musical content despite the fact that the preceding material is drastically different (as in Fire vs. Water vs. Air vs. Earth). I think I'll mention that in the completeness part of my second review that takes into account the whole collection.

This thing is massive.
Not listened to it yet, I hate mice pace streams.
In a weird way, I hope it's not "Kid A and the Infinite sadness" since those are 2 albums I've never really got
ace review though Nick

I'd also like to say that this is the first Thrice album that hasn't blown me away on first listen. By the 6th it was right up there with my impression of the others but it was all slowgoing for some reason. Probably because "Digital Sea" just isn't very good.

I like "Digital Sea", I think "Open Water" is the weakest of that disc. "Lost Continent" to the end of that disc is absoutely incredible though.

I'll agree with that, although I do like "Digital Sea" a lot. This had the same impression on me that Vheissu did, i.e., "this is different", which is one of the reasons this band is so good - they're not afraid to tackle anything musically.
The Messenger is so sex, btw.

Ya the more I listen to "The Messenger" the more I like it. The harmonic progressions and rhythmic patterns in the chorus are super predictable as I pooped on in the review but Thrice executes it well enough so that it doesn't suck. I still bob my head to that section even though it's trite because they still shred pretty hard.

The techno parts and outro make that song for shizzle. But yeah, my faves are Messenger, Burn The Fleet, Lost Continent, Firebreather, and Open Water.

Hmm like, does the production not seem loud enough sometimes or am i just talking shit?

Good review. You compare them to Isis and Mastodon, but I think they may have gotten the four elements idea from Mastodon, who are doing the same thing:
Remission: Fire
Leviathan: Water
Blood Mountain: Earth
I think they're releasing air next. Also, Devin Townsend did this:
Ocean Machine - Biomech: Water
Physicist: Air
Terria: Earth
Strapping Young Lad (s/t): Fire
It's not really a new idea, but it attracted my attention enough to check out this band, and I'm happy with the results. And I do think the water side sounds more aquatic than ethereal.

Nothing Thrice has released has really ever amazed me on first listen, but the Water disc has come closest
