It shouldn't be compared to their older albums, it's beautiful in it's own separate way, for the way it's executed, laid back, minimalist, etc.

Cause it's meant to be laid back.

Yes but laid back, and losing focus at times are two different things.

A comparison should always be made if that is what a person desires. A valid comparison would perhaps be that it is not in the same vein as previous albums. The problem comes when drawing inappropriate conclusions from the comparison.

Well put. I just feel like one of radiohead's key attributes is drastic reinvention from album to album, like I mention in my review, I think it would just be unfair to compare Kid A to Ok Computer, you know?

Yeah I think I agree with you. I mean, saying they are not alike at all is itself a comparison. That I have no problem with

But comparing them and saying one is better does not do the albums justice, they are their own beasts. At least that is how I've interpreted what you've said. I may be wrong.

And I didn't know you did a review, I'll have to check it out.

Speaking of comparisons, Rolling Stone gave this a higher rating then they gave OK Computer and Kid A lawl.

I'm coming in late but how much of the press coverage is because this is Radiohead? Joey and the Nutshells out of Grendale, MI putting their album up for any price on the 'net isn't going to garner as much press. I'm not going to attack their marketing strategy, I'm all for free music, but Radiohead would be getting this press whether the album was free or not. "Radiohead Generation?" Really?

It's definitely a lot of the fact that it's Radiohead. However, it's undeniable that they are doing something really unheard of on the level they're at and even though some people will get it for free, they'll still make tons of money on it, proving the record companies fallable and perhaps starting off something big in industry's future. Therefore it gets more press then just "Radiohead release new album, you can get it for 20 bucks at your local FYE." This is more than just releasing an album, it's a brilliant publicity stunt that's working.

After getting this on release day and listening to it quite a bit, I still don't know how to numerically qualify it. When I gave it a first pass, the most telling thing wasn't whether I liked it or not, but was completely ambivalent toward it. I would have rather hated it outright, as many of my favourite albums were my most hated at first.

If there's anything I hate, it's how they've demoted previously great songs like Nude to merely average numbers. I was pretty excited by their live versions, but somehow, things seem to have been lost in translation.

After such a long wait, it's impossible to say that they (or Thom on The Eraser) haven't done these things before, but better. If they had a stronger closer, I might be a little more certain about the fate of the album. As it is, the only thing I truly like about it is the mindset of how they wanted to record and distribute it. In that sense, it could have been ten blank tracks, and it would still be "worth it" (and at least a bit of a statement in and of itself). This Message Edited On 10.26.07

My favorite tracks would have to be Reckoner, 15 Step, and Weird Fishes/Arpeggi

Great 'chilling' album.
