I think some people are way too harsh on this.

It took a lot of listens but I really like this now.

I listened to this a short while ago...it struck me as, well, not a good album or a bad album, just...an album. Something you just put on to have some noise, and some occasional cool moments.

This is boring as shit. I should have stolen it.

Thank goodness the pgi squeals are gone. I hated them. Unlike Doom, this is death metal.

DOOM!! turn it to stun and aim to kill.... whatever its rad...

I liked the pig squeels, but they did overuse them, I think I'm one of the few people here that likes this band.

I really like them too. Looking forward to seeing them live in a couple of weeks too.

They sound like a watered down version of Hypocrisy. This is a poor attempt of theirs at being taken seriously. They should have stayed with their pig-squeals and breakdowns IMO coz theyre better at that.

It's because they're overhyped, but I do agree. You can't walk into any Hot Topic without being raped by JFAC products. This album is still pretty solid, though. "Bearing the Serpent's Lamb" and "The Divine Falsehood" are awesome. This Message Edited On 12.02.07

Yeah, The Divine Falsehood is probably the best track here.

It definitely reminded me of Behemoth the first time I heard it.

vocals definitely declined. doom had some variation, and now it's just this monotonous george fisher imitation.
the technicality of the guitars really stepped up, and yet all the songs manage to sound exactly the same. very boring and over-hyped album, but certainly not as bad as everyone says.

After seeing these guys live and listening to Genesis, I've definately decided these guys take a lot of unwarranted crap. They aren't groundbreaking, amazing, or doing anything too flashy, but they are pretty tight live and every once and a while I don't mind giving this a listen. A 3 seems like a pretty fair rating...

3 is perfectly fair. I hadn't settled on a 2.5 or a 3 before I wrote this, but I figured a 2.5 would get the point across that this isn't anything new at all and wasn't executed nearly as well as it could've been.
I stand by my review, my opinion hasn't changed at all. This is just too bland.

Saw this band when Unearth last toured.
I thought they were another band playing.
Shows how interested I was, and how much they sound like the rest of the current br00tal movement.
Meh, that's my opinon.

I thought they were tight live but they lacked stage presence.
The more I listen to this the more I can differentiate between the tracks, essentially enjoying the album much more. Lyrically, it's a superb album and Johnny's vocals are also really good, especially his lows and ability to switch to the high shrieks. The drumming is also brilliant throughout the album - whether Elliott did it or not I'm unsure of but whoever did it they did a grand job.
Riff wise, it's technical but generic. Some songs have great riffs; Bearing the Serpent's Lamb, Embedded and The Divine Falsehood being highlights.
If they can spend a bit more time refining their songwriting and writing more varied material, I can see their next album being very, very good.

^I agree. Their lyrics are superb and Johnny's vox are damn good...

Agree with most of what you said Confessed, but a lot more diversity between the songs is needed for the next album to be any good. The Divine Falsehood is great though, mainly because it differs from the other tracks on here.

Ya there are some decent tracks on this but for an album it fails.
