Wait, let me get this straight....this guy gave a Van Halen album (which has at least a couple classics, thus warranting a higher score than "awful") a 1 and this (which has plently of amazing songs even though it's not the masterpiece people make it out to be) a 2.....and he has a higher approval rating than I do? Sputnikers are so fickle.
|
| |
Wow! This guy is soooooo desperate to give this a bad rating that he's gone to microscopic nitpicking to do so.
Hey asshole! If everyone looked at that level, then every single album every recorded in the history of man, and every single work of music ever composed would be considered "first-class shit".
|
| |
I'm glad this guy actually put his opinion out there. I wonder how many people looked at the rating and rated his review down instantaneously. This is his opinion and some people seem to think that their musical opinion is very important (which it isn't).

This album is so overrated.

revolutionary pop album tbh

I used to enjoy this a lot more. I think part of the reason why I've renounced my love of the vast majority of The Beatles' albums is because of how many better pop albums I've found from the '60s.

i dunno, there's only one pop album i've heard that ranks right up there with the big 4/5 of the beatles' albums and that's Pet Sounds
Forever Changes is p close too

"i dunno, there's only one pop album i've heard that ranks right up there with the big 4/5 of the beatles' albums and that's Pet Sounds

This all night long.
I think Forever Changes is just as good as The White Album and possibly this.
Pet Sounds > Everything except Revolver

and Rubber Soul.
Rubber Soul is perfect.

Like you said, revolutionary. People's eyes must've just bulged out of their heads.

Have you guys heard The Zombies' Odessey and Oracle?
|

Album Rating: 4.5
yeah
|
| |
I personally think that album far outdoes anything The Beatles have ever touched. After revisting a lot of The Beatles' discography in the last year I've found that almost every single one of their albums is chalked full of filler material. I will still defend Revolver and Rubber Soul 'til death though.

I love Odessey and Oracle, but I just prefer the above mentioned a bit more. I can definitely see it being an album that sounds better the more you listen to it.

"their outspoken frankness on the issue of drugs in public"
Not sure where you're getting this and I'm pretty sure it is inaccurate.
"With the release of Revolver in 1966, the Beatles solidified themselves, once again, as the most inventive group in rock n' roll."
No, it showed innovation that had not been present prior and has only been hinted at in Help!.
"the Beatles really broke through with Revolver."
No, no they didn't... they broke through with their Ed Sullivan Performance in 1963! They transcended pop with Rubber Soul and cemented their better than pop reputation with Revolver.
"Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band took hundreds of days in the studio"
Approx: 140 (less than hundreds) which isn't that bazaar when it's your own studio.
"It must first be noted that Sgt. Peppers seems to follow the exact template set by Revolver. Basically, its pacing isn't original one bit. As mentioned above, Revolver starts with a hard rocker. Hmmm.... surprise, the first song on Sgt Pepper is the self-titled track, which is a hard rocker. The mid-point of Revolver was a wacky children' song; Sgt. Pepper's mid-point is a wacky children’s song called "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!," this time with a circus theme. Revolver closed with a psychedelic freak-out? So does Sgt. Pepper, which closes with "A Day in the Life." I understand sticking to a working formula. But I don't understand how an album could be praised so for its originality when its format is a carbon copy of the previous one."
All opinion and not one ounce of fact.
I'm less than half way through this and can already say that this is one of the most poorly researched reviews I've ever read. It's also slanted solely to support your overall opinion and would only fool the most naive of music fans in general.

"Speaking of originality: has anyone stopped to think about the fact that Sgt. Pepper really wasn't the first concept album? Mothers of Invention, The Beach Boys ("Pet Sounds" was claimed by Paul as a huge influence on this album), and The Kinks are all bands more likely to claim to the "first concept album" title. "
No one has ever claimed it to be the first...

"yes people will disagree. what can i say? i write what i want to write"
Yes you most certainly do, no matter how inaccurate.
"would only fool the most naive of music fans in general."
Reading through the comments I see I have overestimated my fellow sputsters a bit, how sad. :^(
