They definitely have their own sound though, id never mistake them for someone else.

Idk FlagAsh, they use the studio much more inventively than most indie rock groups do, plus they generally have more of a sense of groove to them than is common for indie rock. They're not like the most unique, groundbreaking band ever but they definitely have their own thing going for them.

Agreed, they use the studio well here. 'Ghost' is easily my favourite here, then R&S

Doof which of their albums aside from this are you familiar with?

"Ghost" is an interesting favorite
I think "The Underdog" is mine, but Don't Make Me a Target rules

"Ghost" is one of my fave here, along with "Don't Make Me a Target", "The Underdog", "Black Like Me", and "My Little Japanese Cigarette Case", I love them all though.

It's just the track that's not like the rest

having gone through the discog from KTM onward, i think this is definitely my favourite. it's their album with the most cohesion and end-to-end bangers. i always listen to 'ghost of you' when i'm dabbling with my own music because i really admire its production chops

The production here is amazing for sure. Nice rating.
Definitely check Girls Can Tell too, that has some of their best songs.
|

They Want My Soul is still the first and only Spoon I've checked

The new single is amazing, first listen I wasn't sold but now I can't stop listening to it.
Sowing TWMS is a great record but not even top 3 Spoon for me, it's a discog worth exploring more for sure.

i'd put 'do you' and 'inside out' up there as two of their best tracks

For sure yeah, definitely the major highlights of that album.

I only know 'soul' as well as this one. I've listened to Gimme Fiction and some of Moonlight and Tranference. Their discog reminds me of how I feel about Yo La Tengo - once you know three or four albums you do ask yourself 'do I really need to hear more from this band?'
Steady eddies basically

Interesting Doof, I could see what you mean with that last bit, I guess it depends on how much you enjoy what they bring to the table. I've got 5 of their albums rated 4+ so for me that's beyond consistent enough to eat up anything they do.

i can understand that perspective, but for the sake of argument i'd say spoon have a bit more replay value than YLT. they might not do a huge deal to change up their sound, but you know you're going to get something solid out of them. i find them insanely listenable if not emotionally charged or challenging. you should try some of these tracks in a vacuum, for the sake of diversity: 'i summon you', 'black like me', 'small stakes', 'someone something'

"Anything You Want" is a great individual track too.
But yeah their music's not extremely emotionally charged for the most part but they're just so goddamn listenable.
Britt's singing is so great too.

Thats part of what i like about Spoon. Theyre not emotionally charged, they just sound cool as fuck.

Some of their closers are pretty emotional though I must say
"Vittorio E." brings the feels for sure.
