This album is like a drug for me. It's so addictive! The first time i heard it i just played it over and over again.
I don't know about reviewing it track by track, though. It's definitely an album that must be listened all the way through, non-stop.
'Time' is epic, 'Great Gig' is beautiful and 'Money' is charming and witty (i know the entire solo on my air guitar).
It's not hard to see why this is one for the ages.

I don't understand the fascination with Animals... This album is far better than Animals in my opinion. Probably beats Wish You Were Here too, although that's more debateable.
Money has probably my favourite guitar solo(s) of all time... Really love it.
And the single-flow album thing. Pink Floyd perfected it... Right here.

anyone else hear of this. i read a book by nick mason a while ago, and in it he said that the talking in money is actually part of an interview the band manager, or someone linked with the band, did with paul macartney. iv looked for other info about this but cant find squat on the net
also the book told the tale of how the vocalist came to do great gig in the sky (her name escaped me at the moment, iv smoked too much weed listening to this synched with Wizard Of Oz lol). Apparently the band was recording their version of the song and roger was throwing tantrums becasue it wasnt what (t)he(y) wanted. during the lunch breaks, i think it was nick herd one of the sound crew or receptionists singing in the toilets. and from there the band bought her in to sing the original lyrics of GGITS, and them roger in his infinite wisdom asked her to use the screams and wails we now hear so beautifully and mysteriously in the album today.

for all his tantrum throwing and self-idolising nature for want of better words, he was one hell of a musician and thinker.
as i said before i read this book a while ago, about 6 months, and iv tried to find information on the net about this but cant find anything. if there is anyone who can confirm or deny this tell me lol

Because he was giving his honest opinion and didn't give every song a 5/5. I myself think it's a 4.5/5.

The only people I know who say that this is the 'best' record of all time are students who smoke tons of pots and listen to it at 3 in the morning. But then again this is Sputnikmusic and the people who like this record are quite intelligent so i'll let it go.

I personally prefer Piper at the Gates of Dawn, back when Syd Barrett was in Pink Floyd. Dark Side of the Moon is a Great album! The only song I can't listen to more than 10 times in a row would be The Great Gig in the Sky, everything else is just mind blowing.

lol there are some of us who are students and smoke pot and listen to it at three in the morning who when normal, (if you can call it that), appreciate it becasue of the concept of life and death it has. i cbf going into all the details, but yea your always on the run from something in life, money is a gas, the lunatics are on the grass (lol us stoners), and the sun is eclipsed by the moon, for really life is just a heartbeat, it what we do from the heartbeat is what makes everything up in life. (im sorry that was really lame attempt at humour, but too busy to think of some other way to sum up the album)
and as for GGITS, your the first person i have ever herd in my life say they cant stand it.

Life isn't a heartbeat... Not in my opinion anways... I hate when people say life is "a dick" or "a bitch" (I like heartbeat better than those) because I don't think life can be related to just one thing because I think life can be whatever you want it to be, It's completely up to you. Thats why everyones different and unique in their own way.

I too thought pink floyd music was really complicated until I listened closer it's just layered with differnent stuff it all fits and is what gives them their unique sound. Anyone recomend which album to pick up to someone new to pink floyd

This one, actually. Afterwards, you'll want to travel to their unimaginably great Wish You Were Here.

Im sorry but I sat through this entire album and was numbed by its horrible "music." It was just noise and nothing really sounded remotely good. It must be a stonner thing because no one with a good sense of music would even call this music, or even creative. I wouldnt go so far as to call it trash. This is my opinion, and i know im not the only one. But, if the rest of you like it, fine, just dont make me listen to it.
I even tried it with the wizard of Oz, just to make it interesting. It didnt help.

Well your entitled to your own opinion. I think this album is great... but about the Dark Side of the Rainbow thing... theres a certain time when "its best" to start the synchronization of Dark Side of the Moon and The Wizard of Oz... When did you start the CD? (at what part of the movie that is...)This Message Edited On 09.21.05

As i've grown older, I've realized that there are better albums...but this deserves a lot of the recognition it gets.
Rating: 4.5/5 Great, but certainly not the greatest.

well, my friend was the one who synchronised it, so he did it at the lion part in the intro. It was very well in synch, but i still thought it was way to retarded an album. I like the idea of the synchronizations tho. This Message Edited On 09.25.05

Amazing album. One of my favourites (my fourth favourite Pink Floyd album, which shows just how good they are.)
