Ghost of the Sun would be one of the best songs ever if the lyrics in the chorus weren't so terrible.

Great album. I heard Burn the Remembrance on Pandora one day a while ago and have been quite fond of this band since.

been listening to this album for like 4 years on and off (mostly off) and I still don't recount someone bringing up the whole noir detective/criminal vibe of the record, like a dark, twisted texas ranger on an album or something

Agreed hard, the lyrics here in general are pretty average

Easily among the most depressing records of all time

I don't find it that depressing, although it is pretty bleak

Listening to this now, the vocals are outstanding. Probably my favourite since Brave Murder Day.

Remains one of my favorite Katatonia albums, one of the best albums when you're in difficult times.

Used to be my least favorite by them but I've been obsessively listening to it the last three days, I guess it finally clicked with me. One of their most depressing in a lyrical sense.

Not among favourites, but still rocks a lot. A Fair Deal would probably be my pick for most depressing lyrics, while this one is up there as well.

I heard Brave Murder Day 4 years ago and I have to say I was blown away by its greatness, but somehow I never went further with Katatonia's discography, just stuck to that album and never heard anything else. Last month I decided to give them a try, continuing in their catalogue in order from BMD. Now that I have arrived to Viva Emptiness I'm sure that this is one of the greatest bands I've ever heard. Since BMD to this point they've been evolving in an unbelievable way, with each album topping the last one. Now I'm looking forward to listen the three albums that I haven't heard (The Cold Distance, Night is The New Day and Dead End Kings). Great band!

Don't forget the EPs too, especially the transitional ones between the old and new sound.

I Have heard very mixed comments about Dance of December souls, but I guess I'll have to judge it myself. Though I think I'll leave it for the end.
Didn't thought the EPs were that relevant, I'll check them out too...
