This guy (Mike)has rated very few albums with low qualification, but curiously these few bands that he rated low, the majority are not in his favorite bands and Machine Head is not one of them, really curious!!. I wonder if it is really objetive in his critiques? check his reviews and verify it.
:confused:

Worst album of 2007 so far.
I wouldn't go that far, personally, but its up/down there.

This is a well written but very cynical review. It looks like you've seen how much a lot of people like it (and the amount of media hype that is buzzing around it) and just decided to go against the grain for the sake of it. That said, it's opinions that make music intresting. So for the sake of making us all think, you've done pretty good!This Message Edited On 04.23.07

It certainly does seem like that, I suppose. A year ago I might have done that, but I not anymore. The review would more or less be the same (aside from obvious references to the hype like in the first paragraph) if this release was a little more..."under the radar," so to speak. If I sound like I'm trying to be negative only because everyone else loves this, it's unintentional.

But uh, thanks for the kind words.This Message Edited On 04.23.07

I've got to be honest, I listened to the song on the page here and it got incredibly boring. If it is anything like the rest of the album you hit the nail on the head here.

I kind of agree with Mikesn about the vocalist

"equally unpleasant vocals"....man i hate Rob voice on this album, he is almost always off-tone...except in Farewell To Arms

(in the growling genre i prefer Hypocrisy, Opeth, Hatebreeder vocalists)

He should only play guitars and getting a better vocalist for the band

The guitar riffs and music structure are saving this album...

some riffs are amazing

==============================

Songs i like on this album:

--Slanderous ***

--Halo***

--Wolves***

--Farewell To Arms**

Second part of the album is better than first

=============================

I prefer "Burn my Eyes" Album

The First & Best LP Album of "Machine Head"

My two cents

I see what you mean but I wrote this in March, when I listened to metal more than pretty much anything else.

I can recommend you a half assed list of metal bands I like but I don't know if you'll like them because I don't know what you listen to, other than this band apparently. But just for the sake of it: Arsis, Machine Men, Gamma Ray, Cellador, Torchbearer, and Hypocrisy.

All the bands you just listed are killer. Especially Hypocrisy.

This album is overrated by many and underrated by some.

In all honesty i didn't enjoy this album as much as I hoped, i mean long length doesn't necissarilly translate to a better song. If anything i think i prefered the shorter more focused songs from their last album. Bullet and Imperium were probally my favourate songs. I admit "the blackening" is still an improvement over just about anything machine head have released since "the more things change". But adding more riffs, no matter how memorable hardly makes it "more metal".

I know everyone accused them of selling out to nu metal in the late 90's but doesn't flyn's attempt at making the kind of music that metal hammer currently finds trendy the same thing? I think making Good music is more important than sticking to a genre and accuse me of having a short attention span, but some of these songs (fists of descent in particular) just don't grab me.
