I miss that era a lot tbh, there was a lot of fun music coming out at that time
And the TWA Demo is fucking sweet agreed

you guys have great taste. his last walk is my favorite. love that album and twa demo. i miss that era too, the music had spirit and energy that is really absent these days. even cookie cutter bands from back then are so much more interesting than modern core bands to me. also djent ruined everything

I wouldn't say djent ruined everything. Bands that took elements of it and added to their metalcore sound (basically the progressive metalcore genre) like Invent Animate, Erra, Northlane, etc really pulled off the sound spectacularly

i exaggerate slightly but i do i hate that sound for the most part tbh but i have heard it done well sometimes, just rarely. djent is usually so much worse than core stuff ever was, djent is so mindless and dumb it's mostly a meme anyways it seems. i love bleed but man, maybe that song should never have existed lol. i haven't heard any of those bands you listed though.

eh that was a mixed bag. they're pretty good but they still have that 'prog djent metalcore' sound that i'm not into. the djent moments of palming the same note in a staccato rhythm are still stupid, the other guitar stuff is fine though. doesn't really do much for me but still not bad at all overall. it has an icky modern vibe that just doesn't jive with me but the singing and melodies are good. the band standing like noodles and flopping over in unison to the breakdown reminded me of crabcore but sillier and less hype lol

this ep has maybe my favorite guitar parts in post-hardcore, outdoing will swan even at times. the guitar in All Star Diaries is just sex on the ears

I absolutely love that sound but I see why it can be a bit much haha. That vocalist is amazing, one of my favorites easily
|

Did this vocalist ever do anything afterwards? This Ep still a jam

I don't think he did anything after this, which is a shame because he was great

"This was one of my favs along with lovehatehero, and blessthefall last walk. "
this hard, along with The Word Alive's "Empire" EP

took the words out of my mouth although it's hard to say how much of it is just nostalgia at this point. either way yeah most of that djent stuff is so mind-numbingly boring. hell i'd rather jam Drop Dead Gorgeous' "In Vogue" instead of some Erra, Northlane, or whatever bullshit. i don't really follow the scene anymore these days so maybe i'm just out of touch

But have you listened to Erra tho

yes I jammed their first one with the cringey album cover, forget what it's called. that was years ago though

i don't remember it being bad but that whole genre just seems so stale to me. i used to listen to a few releases back in the day like The Contortionist's "Apparition" EP
