it's a groovier poppier koi no yokan with less screaming and more consistent, but not reaching the highs of that album on any particular track
definitely would have preferred more screaming but i think chino's voice isn't what it used to be

Really not a weak song on the record. It's overall much poppier/groovier than I expected and there are very few moments that reach the level of intensity of the two singles, which is slightly disappointing. But damn is this thing catchy. Like a poppier/lighter KNY combined with the good elements from Gore.
My early favorites are Ecydsis, Milk of the Madonna, My Mind is a Mountain, Souvenir, Cut Hands and Departing the Body.
Good shit overall.

Is there any extended ambient sections? Specifically something like the outro of Rosemary going into Goon Squad?
I don’t even wanna know which track if there is at all… just if there’s anything like that lol

And both singles gave the vibe that they transition pretty smoothly into the next songs, is that something we can expect?
I’m a slut for that kind of shit

"Is there any extended ambient sections?"
Yes and you would know which song by just looking at the track lengths.
"I’m a slut for that kind of shit"
All songs transition one into another if I recall well

i actually get a slight callous daoboys vibe on a few of these tracks
|
| |
- 'infinite source' has a cool, glitchy/Root-ish guitar riff
- 'souvenir' is fucking awesome; if the whole album sounded like this I would be totally fine with it. Rosemary Pt. 2-ish
- 'i think about you all the time' is beautiful
- 'cut hands' is the most nu-metal Deftones song possible, and I can't tell if that's a good thing or not
- '~metal dream' is if Deftones went witch-house w/ Stef riffs
- 'departing the body' is a cool little send-off
Deftones are gonna Deftones, basically

infinite source might be my favorite overall
what interests me is the two singles are not indicative of the rest of the album. they always seem to do this

yea infinite source is an instant top 10 deftones track idc what anyone says
it’s like their best modern homage to Hum

this is like a more optimistic, upbeat koi no yokan

Genesis was a good representation of what this record would sound like but I completely agree with the title track being like that… I can’t remember who said it but it sounds damn close to something Mastodon would do

Completed my first listen. Deftones are easily in my top 5 band of all time but for now it's a little underwhelming. Can't really put my finger on it.. maybe spinning it for like 73 more times helps
Not saying it’s bad but it hasn’t really landed yet for me.

First impressions are great, it feels like the natural progression of Koi and what Gore should have been.
Seems very front loaded to me though, last 3 songs kinda came and went but will probably be growers. Infinite Source is fucking mint.

Very good album, really loving majority of the songs here.
Also, Deftones sampling the prodigy was on my bingo card.
