it would have been great, as a debut by a band never heard of. But the problem here is it's Tool and they have done this already, back when Maynard had passion in his vocal approach. He actually sounds bored on some lines, especially on Pneuma. There is no passion here, nothing memorable and it has, like I said before, 0 replay value. To each his own though, if you like it then go nuts but this is a very poor attempt considering the amount of time put into it. Not the time between 1O,OOO Days to this, the time from writing it to launch.

Weird right? They ve already done this, yet they never did it like this. They sound mature yet meandering...oof

I like this replay value. Its a very chilling album and Tool's 2nd best.

"it would be pretty impressive to hear something this atmospherically assured and instrumentally proficient as a start point. wouldn't make it any less of an indulgent snoozefest, and since this was the direct result of an already dull sound stagnating further i think it's an unhelpful what-if"

But again, this is a result of this album failing to meet expectations. Looking at your ratings for other Tool albums you have Lateralus, Aenima and Undertow all rated at a 3.0 which is somewhere between average or good, depending on whether you consider the average album to lie at the mean or median of the rating system.

But what that says to me is that you consider Tool's sound to be an indulgent snoozefest at the best of times. Therefore, even if this was their debut album you'd only have this rated as a 3.0, but since it's actually the culmination of a three-decade five-album career you're knocking a full point off it.

The what-if is about separating an objective evaluation of what the album is from a subjective expectation of what it *should* be.

This album is boring as fuck. Remember when people thought 10,000 days was a letdown? That album’s a creative masterpiece compared to this.

maybe it's just you who's getting old and you know deep inside you that is all just a pretentious-driven, overblown turd

don't worry, it happens to all of us
