no, let's go for 1000
|
| |
let's start with an interesting debate:
for how many more years do you guys think this album will be relevant
i give it one year
after that, people will no longer discuss about it
|
| |
complicated because the music here has never been relevant, the release history and sales figures probably have another couple of years (at most) of raising eyebrows, and this thread will live forever in this rusty corner of the net

not that great of an album, repetative and boring. there's no life to this, it seems forced and it has no replay value unless you own a sleep deprivation tank and want to zone out before discount Schism plays

i mean if this was a debut album by a barely known band it would have been great but the problem here is the entire album is one long boring measure with no replay value

Sadly Johnny might be right, which is why we need to start using this thread to start talking about Tool's next album.

"i mean if this was a debut album by a barely known band it would have been great but the problem here is the entire album is one long boring measure with no replay value"
So your critique of the album is that it's a great album that doesn't quite meet your expectations?

no my critique of the album is that it's a mediocre album that doesn't quite meet the bands standard(s) as a whole, let's face it it's pretty boring and forgettable. there's nothing there, it's like, to me, Fear Inoculum is an audio form of one long video of someone watching someone else watch paint dry without a macro lens.

But you said it would have been great if it was a debut album. If its main flaw is that it fails to meet the band's standards then the problem is mainly one of expectations not of quality, i.e. that it's a good album, but just not as good as Tool's other albums.

| |
in a world where a) this came from a no-name band with no previous releases and b) tool didn't exist, so they weren't instantly written off as a Tool clones, it would be pretty impressive to hear something this atmospherically assured and instrumentally proficient as a start point. wouldn't make it any less of an indulgent snoozefest, and since this was the direct result of an already dull sound stagnating further i think it's an unhelpful what-if
