"alt rock" is such a broad term and even so I don't really consider this to be that

Yeah I consider this art rock, at least compared to The Bends and Pablo Honey.

hmm I think the influences on this album are harder to trace than on Kid A, its Autechre / Aphex influence was pretty audible

so I find this one a little more stylistically enigmatic maybe, not to say Kid A isn't a unique album though (still my fave of theirs)

this is just as audibly Nirvana/R.E.M./Pink Floyd as Kid A is Autechre/Aphex Twin imo

this has always seemed more inspired by trip hop/electronic shit, just filtered through their more "rock band" set up + Nigel's production than anything from the grunge scene

as for R.E.M., I think that was just kind of in their DNA by this point

yeah "Airbag" is such a perfect opener, not only cos it's a fucking awesome song but also it just perfectly establishes where they were coming from on this one with that "chopped & screwed" drum track + the "Changeling"-esque bass & the glitched guitar effects + subtle electronic integrations

lordy I love it

Not saying the Nirvana / REM / Floyd / DJ Shadow influences aren't there, they definitely are, but it is more subtle imo, like it has gone through more filters or something
