I'm a strong supporter of The Resistance, that album is hated on so much and I don't get why

I don’t think it’s bad, but it’s a bit blah for me. Some good tracks tho.

Seems to be the general census yeah

It tried to be really grand/huge and fell a little short in places

I think what gives Origin the upper hand, in my opinion, is that it has one of the best openers first of all. Secondly, the high gaudy, sprawling, space operatic greatness is then accentuated in tracks like Space Dementia, Micro Cuts, and Megalomania. I think, really, the only track that feels misused and a bit tacky is Feeling Good.

Absolution is still a fantastic album through and through. A bit of a weaker opener, but still gives off the doom feeling of, well, the apocalypse. I just feel it a bit doughier in places. And Matt's doldrums are just too funny at times--it feels genuine on one track and feigned on another. The whole thing is still a lovable package of tracks, and I have a strong liking to it as its my first Muse album

I don't know if this makes sense, but I like the crunchiness of Origin, even if the sound mixing is a tad loud in places.

That's the other thing: I've never found another album like Origin. I've found replacements for nearly all of Muse's discography in some form or another.

Yeah Absolution is great (as is Black Holes), but Origin reigns supreme as it has their best song (Citizen Erased), second best song (Newborn) and two of their top 10-15 songs (Bliss and Plug In Baby). Just a stacked album.

for sure, one criticism i have about this record is the awkward flow from apocalyptic and epic to radio-friendly rock ala Apocalypse Please into Time is Running Out and Thoughts of a Dying Athiest into Ruled by Secrecy. Origin trumps this in terms of flow imo

Yeah it definitely represented a notable descent.

Yeah, that's true. The bassline of Hysteria still kicks ass

Plus, Dream Theater copied Stockholm Syndrome for about half of the Octavarium album, lol
