Cattle Decapitation is fun but haven't really been all that into anything after Monolith of Inhumanity. Their mid period's underrated
Still have yet to check Terrasite though who knows

Ngl I skimmed it, I can't be assed to sit through 52 whole minutes especially since the 5-6 minutes I skimmed all sounded the exact same. Couldn't tell songs apart for shit, nothing felt different, it felt like it was all the same tempo. Same metal blade production which wouldn't be bad if the writing had more dynamics. i'm not even asking for some metalcore clean chorus stuff that people would write off, just some damn variety from song to song
"but haley you sat through this which is 63 minutes" every song has a wildly different structure and there's many different feelings and vibes to keep it feeling fresh. i couldn't even find so much as a short clean interlude for 20 seconds to build the atmosphere CD is supposedly trying to create. i was even trying to find those supposed cleans people hated but they sounded really lowkey and low in the mix.

i mean it's whatever, metalsput's gonna splooge all over them when they make the same song over and over but then still tout the "all nickelback songs sound the same" line like it's 2003.

why do you alwyas feel the need to endlessly compare completely unreleated things to each other, what the fuck has cattle decapitation got to do with this sucking or not. what difference does it make if people on this site generally like a completely unrelated band. these things have nothing to do with each other.
you do this all the fucking time and each time it makes less and less sense

It's beyond ridiculous that variety is shunned but the same song 12 times gets a fkin 3.8 tbh. ESPECIALLY since the same people giving CD a 3.8 are always the first to complain about how "samey" say, a Nickelback or whatever album sounds.
|

again, these have nothing to do with each other, its a bizarre and naive line of reasoning and you keep doing it

Stfu it's not variety that's being shunned, we love Ulver here
It's butthole music that generally turns us off, regardless of weather it sounds like different stinky buttholes or one great big mass of unwiped bullshit

it just shows that despite people claiming it to be...variety really isn't a "value" people strive to find if they're gonna overrate the most samey death metal records while whinging about a "samey" radio rock album despite said radio rock album having more sonic range.

honestly even if 'variety' was a concern, this doesn't particularly have that much variety anyway. you lack experience with deathgrind and as such are ill-equipped to notice the nuances in individual tracks across an album, the same way how someone with no knowledge of the majority of shitty djent would have trouble telling any inidvidual track apart on a periphery album for example. the same way my mum would say all this screamy shouty music sounds the same when i'd play funeral for a friend after slipknot when i was a kid. you lack the knowledge necessary.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Cattle Decapitation. The music is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the lyrics will go over a typical listener's head. There's also Travis's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these songs, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Cattle Decapitation truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Travis's existential catchphrase "Shoved into a soul, wired with circuitry you cannot control" which itself is a cryptic reference to Travis's obsession with doxing a 14 year old.
I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Travis Ryan's genius unfolds itself on their speakers. What fools... how I pity them. And yes by the way, I DO have a Cattle Decapitation tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

"It's beyond ridiculous that variety is shunned"
are you rly earnestly going to equate criticising an album for attempting a lucky dip of genres that do not gel together (in this band's hands) with wholesale REJECTION OF VARIETY jfc if this is mental gymnastics it's like watching someone trying pole vault by headbutting the floor
"ESPECIALLY since the same people giving CD a 3.8 are always the first to complain"
please name a single person who has appeared at any point in this thread whom you believe you are directly addressing here
"about how "samey" say, a Nickelback or whatever album sounds."
there is this thing in english and every over language called an implicature or nuance, which is when you say something and it carries a hidden meaning that means the word you have just said only makes full sense in a certain light. this is a key part of how people communicate without being endlessly asinine and is a critical factor for a lot of literature and/or everyday shitposting. the implicature of 'samey' is negative. this does not necessarily mean that an album is bad because it does the same thing over and over again. it means that it sucks in general/in other specific aspects and it sucks worse because it repeats itself. this is why you very rarely see good repetitious albums, of which there are many, described as 'samey'. for all i know, CxDx may well warrant the adj, but why on earth would you take that as a springboard for 1) a sweeping generalisation of people who are not your audience itt, 2) a comparison that has fuck all to do with this album 3) bottom of the barrel Nickelback discourse are you actively trying to fuck with our heads read a newspaper or go back to tumblr

"you lack the knowledge necessary"
maybe, but i've given bands like that many chances to wow me, many chances to live up to the hype and I've gotten a handful of cool riffs and a severe lack of dynamic range. i can't sit here listening to bands pummeling me for 6 hours straight on a discog run, it eventually will always start to bleed into itself and sound the same if they can't even do so much as vary the tempos.
the reason albums like Jane Doe are so good despite arguably being heavier, is they actually allow you to have a bit of a break every now and again. the sludge sections are what complete that album. most of these bands just stay full speed for 50 minutes and it gets to the point where you just can't differentiate tracks anymore when they ALL sound like that.
