how so? my criticism for this is that it's too clean, the vibrato vocals are goofy, it's emotionally hollow, and it feels like the basics of the two subgenres they are using with nothing new, nothing original, nothing creative.

how does any of that apply to wildhund? that album is strikingly original, it fearlessly and masterfully melds many disparate styles like djent, shoegaze, and progressive metal, and it has a very strong emotional core. it's the product of someone that clearly feels and understands music.

Quetzal, nothing about that album is original in any sense. While nothing on it sounds like Foo Fighters in any sense in terms of instrumentals, this has gotten the butt of Foo Fighters jokes which I still do not see. Wildhund, however, actually sounds like Foo Fighters. I can overlook unoriginal instrumentation if you wanna get into that, which Wildhund actually has incoded into its DNA. But I don’t wanna hear anything about this album having bad vocals from anyone trying to support that album lol. Like I said. It’s good. But the vocals lack majorly

Now Melting Sun… that’s a different story. I’ll have to give that one another spin. I got it at a 4.5 and I remember it being awesome. But Wildhund; nah

i've listened to wildhund probably about 25 times by now and it just gets better every listen, it's a textural masterpiece, layered and deep. it might go down in my top 10 of the decade.

about halfway through deafheaven i just started fast forwarding to the ends of tracks. i'm honestly probably going to lower the 2.5 i gave it.

but i mean opinions, whatever, everyone has their own. i listen to shoegaze all the time so when such a bland, unflavored shoegaze record comes out i'm not going to be impressed.

man you can dislike wildhund, that's fine, but you can't say it's generic and unoriginal. that's just false.

This>>>>wildhund

The second is more original tho, I agree.

The Foo Fighters meme is not in either, but I also wouldn t see it as neg. Wildhund s djenty pseudo post nature ain t for me, like at all.

And you can’t say this is generic when you love that album cuz this is way less generic. You won’t find a Shellstar, Great Mass of Color, Villain, nor Mombasa on that album. It’s nice but it goes in one ear and right out the other. It’s Shoegaze in its simplest form.

what are you talking about, wildhund isn't even shoegaze, that's not even the main genre of that album

and no, this deafheaven album is way more generic, all their music is generic. they are one of the least original bands i've heard in these subgenres. they are the basics, the tropes, personified.

lol yeah this is totally a record by the tropes. its interesting points come when the tropes of different genres clash with each other but they are very much tropin' along.

Wildhund is pretty frigid sounding tho.

I don t think this is generic at all cause its shoegaze with sick and fast drumms, which if not unique is very uncommon. I think they do the same formula in all songs tho, it just works for me. They also use always the same formula in Sunbather tho.

Apparently being more original means it's better , that's a thing i've been seeing in Sputnik for years, that's sometimes the case, sometimes it isn't, is like people are looking for prog in every style (Wich I would say is wrong) I still think this has his own things tho, his own touch to the music, like Deftoned said with the drums or some scream here and there. Is still a solid shoegazy-postrocky album and I connect with it, wich is enough for me at least.

lacing has pretty kinetic drums, try the song 92

i feel like the new deafheaven kind of reminds me of lacing the most, but lacing has WAY better production, shoegaze needs to be a bit raw, a bit jagged. lacing isn't my favorite though, that infinity song should be 2 minutes at most, not 15.

Prog is one of the most unoriginal genres tho
