This album was a great surprise. Only Vol 3 and Iowa beat it for me.

depends on what you are making out to be the weak songs on this. IOWA and S/T have some tunes that are lacking compared to each respective highlight tracks

One of the points that pleased me on this album was the return of the atmosphere created by the samples of Craig Jones, since AHIG that was missing in the band's sound. I believe that because Jim root and the clown took the lead in the creation process, this made room for Sid and Craig to be more present.

Damn, just noticed that most of the Slipknot albums (except TGC and maybe AHIG) have much lower averages than they should.

Jay's performance on here needs more love, he really came into his own on this one.

agreed. Anyway I saw them yesterday with Behemoth and they put on an amazing show. Jim Root got angry to Tortilla man as well at a certain point, not sure if that was part of the show lol

Hoping for any deep album cuts for next week. Did they play any of that Clansman?

Although their incoherence remains, I mean, old guys making music for kids, I think the album has some strong innovations that need to be praised.

It's an awful statement for this site though, this AVG is ahead of Iowa or even Subliminal.

I think Subliminal is their best, but this isn’t far behind Iowa at all imo. Almost equal.

Disasterpiece, My Plague, Everything Ends, Gently and Left Behind...only from the head, I'd pick any of those single songs over this entire album, but I admit I can be biased by my love for early Slipknot...or I can change this explanation for...

You are wrong, fucked and overrated, I think I'm gonna be sick and its your fault...

you definitely have to give slipknot credit for what they did for mainstream metal. I mean I can remember the time s/t/IOWA was released and those records were tossed around the school yard like some old horror movies you would want to get your fingers across to be cool. they basically cultivated anger as an expression for misunderstood kids who looked for something to release their agression to. From a personal nostalgic point of view everything up to and including vol.3 is classic for me. There are just a few records I basically know every lyric to these days and that is a huge compliment for the band.

Sorry for the length, just had to put out some love. WANYK is awesome

"you definitely have to give slipknot credit for what they did for mainstream metal." It was just what I did and couldn't agree more with that opinion, I was one of those kids lol either that or the hiphop scene all around.

I still think those albums are awesome, they feel honest somehow...even if they're not...on here, as I mentioned they did good steps, although I don't think they'll ever mature their sound, nor get as genuine as early works.

Iowa is still their best IMO. Anyway, I think they'll keep playing the same four songs off this album (Unsainted, Solway, Nero Forte and Birth of the Cruel) for a while before adding something else. Red Flag would be a killer tune for a live set, I hope they'll put it in sooner or later

I'd need to revisit all their other stuff to be sure, as it's been years since I heard the others in full, bar Grey Chapter, but I'm fairly certain this is actually my favorite record of theirs
