Read that as "this band would be much better if they were a different band"

Damn I’m slow. In my head I thought “strange, never really noticed the rhythm section holding down the fort for this band, but if pika says I better pay more attention next time.”

This band would be much better if their albums were produced somewhat competently

I'm sorry to hear that Tuna, mine passed in December and I feel the same about that song

Thanks Slexy - so sorry for your loss. For me, it played on shuffle, out of the blue, some time in early December as I was driving, and suddenly I was crying.

Despite how much I enjoy this, I've still struggled to get into anything else by these guys. Everything about them screams that they should be one of my all time favorite bands. I only tried a few of their albums one time and it was a few years ago, so I'm going to try again very soon.
Edit: Came in blind for my comment, sorry for everyone's respective losses

Oh man have you listened to The Greatest Generation yet? It blows this out of the water honestly.

Thanks for bumping this, excited to re-listen for the first time in awhile. These guys gotta be winding up for a new release.

To me, every record they've put out is better than the last...until Sister Cities. There are some high points, but Soupy's vocals kinda hit this state of melodrama on here that they somehow managed to avoid in the past that really irk me. Like, nothing wrong with emotional vocals due to the nature of their songs, but it literally sounds like the man is going to break down and cry in some of these songs and it just kinda gets annoying.
Greatest Generation and especially No Closer to Heaven are their highest points. Most of the songs on Sister Cities end up sounding like b-sides and like the band is desperately clawing for a cohesive direction. I got plenty of faith that they can turn things around though. Hope whatever is next fixes the awful mixing that began on No Closer to Heaven lol

Upon revisiting this, I think it is just as strong as Greatest Gen and NCTH. So much gold on this and a really mature stylistic shift in several songs.

New TWY would be pretty cool but ngl these guys kinda lost me after The Greatest Generation.

Thats a shame. Their last two albums are stylistically quite a bit different for the more standard pop punk of upsides/suburbia/greatest gen, but I felt they evolved quite gracefully. TWY is the band I have seen live the most (10+ times and a few aaron west shows) so I am clearly a fan boy though.
