The only thing I've heard from her that even resembles j-pop is the chorus on "Kill v Maim". I just don't hate her vocals and her production is pretty meh, on here and Visions. Not because she's "meme music" (???).

she's like meme music / fake j-pop for people who are too edgy and uptight to actually listen to that kind of music
ironic since this is one of the most pretentious comments in this thread

Guys
lets talk about the horrible album art again
|
| |
it's ugly af. moving on
|

I must be the only one who doesn't think it's horrible. At least it's more interesting than the predictable generic face shots of all the pop divas and what not.

I probably couldn't tell you why it irritates me without writing an essay.

It looks like the winner of a competition to draw the next Grimes album art based on hearing an advance 30 seconds of 'Maim vs Kill' and being told the title is 'Art Angels'. It is bordering on parody.
It looks like the sh*t cover most bands would save for a 'whatever' EP release with the better quality art reserved for the album. First time I saw this I thought 'oh, Grimes has an EP out'

The album cover rules. It's fresh, eye catching and weird without becoming a laughable mess. People could learn a lot by it.

Does everyone remember the multiple fan art album covers for Korn's 'Issues' - that's what I think of when I see this cover.

Korn fan art? Was it scribbled in crayon?
I'm such a bitch!

It's something for Grimes to think about for next time, let her young teenage fanbase express themselves. Many won't even know who Tony Hart was

Zak if it wasn't you I'd totally use those setups for making fun of either you, your taste or your mum. Also the album art fits with all this tumblr shenanigans

This was a fun listen at first, but it's already become pretty forgettable. This is basically just a mashup album of already existing pop genres, there's nothing really new or original here. What made Grimes earlier albums work was that she was trying to make pop music that was inspired by music actually outside of pop. She did refer to herself as 'post-internet' afterall, but that term (even if it's bloody stupid) doesn't seem to really apply now.

that's really accurate tbh, agree almost entirely. where i differ is that i dont feel it's a negative that she's blending a bunch of different pop styles from the past couple of decades, i personally love that
conversely i dont think it's particularly positive that she used to bring outside influences to her pop. i'm kinda neutral/lukewarm on that

"conversely i dont think it's particularly positive that she used to bring outside influences to her pop. i'm kinda neutral/lukewarm on that"
I don't see how that's negative at all. That's what made her stand out amongst the other shite in the first place.
Also I'm positive most here have gotten your point by now.
