"The opener is the best thing on here imo"

I agree, until it turns to utter shit (and by utter shit I mean average) at 5:48. It just doesn't make any sense.

The only reason I ever listen to this is in hopes that something will finally click. I never actually feel like hearing any of it.

Same here man, Agalloch is such a fantastic band. I think the real low point and most memorable part of the album is during the opener at 8:36 till the end. So bad. The interludes are great (but whatever, they are interludes). The Astral Dialogue, Dark Matter Gods, Celestial Effigy, and Plateau of Ages are all good songs, but none of them are what I would consider great for this band.

This is probably their most difficult album to get into. When I started to really enjoy it after so many listens thinking it was pretty average, I questioned myself on multiple occasions if I was forcing it just because it was Agalloch. I think it just takes a lot of time for some people, and this tracklisting isn't exactly ideal either. That was one thing that helped me in really digesting and appreciating the music, taking it a song at a time.

This is hands down the hardest Agalloch to get into for me. It took me forever, but I haven't looked back since.

This is fantastic, but Marrow is clearly better. Nothing on here touches Black Lake.

this one still doesn't quite get there for me. That first track is so awkward when juxtaposed against the following tracks

That first track is so awkward in general. One of my least favorite songs on my least favorite album.

this album sounds like an agalloch tried to write an album that sounds like an agalloch album, but didn't write an agalloch album

if that makes sense

it probably doesn't
