No problem mate and yes I get where you're coming from with this and I agree to a certain extent. However you could approach music less from a historic perspective and more from a music theory perspective too and make a case that's perfectly valid for an album within any genre too.

Personally I've listened to a lot of bm and although I respect the origins of the genre I think a lot of modern albums have progressed it musically to new interesting places. For me this is one of the best bm albums I've heard because it's unique and challenging without being inaccessible. I value that in music.

" I think a lot of modern albums have progressed it musically to new interesting places"

i actually agree with this, as much as i think nattens madrigal is a hard 5 for example i still really dig the newer cascadian style, the alcest style of blackgaze and especially DSO for the hard oppressive shit

honestly this one might be due a few relistens, i liked it at the time but a 5 just seems way out of its reach

Nattens Madrigal is as raw as raw gets and quite awesome for that reason alone, but I prefer their debut tbh which I think is brilliant.

Hell yeah give this a relisten. I've maintained since its release that this is a hard 5 because for me this album was a gamechanger.
