I've just realised this is pretty much the only In Flames record I've actually listened to, what would be the best album to listen to next considering this is my starting point?

Oops totally forgot haha.
On first listen I like it, and there's some killer moments, but it's not as instantly infectious as this is, but that might just be distortion of memory at work and because it's unfamiliar.

Bruh Clayman is def better but yeah if you've heard this way more I get the bias.

I'm not saying is better or worse, not made up my mind on that yet, just that it's probably not as instantly catchy as this record is, but that's not an indicator of quality, as I'd say Above the Weeping World isn't particularly super catchy or has as many obvious hooks, but it's so obviously amazing and legit as near perfect as a record can get.
Some albums just take multiple listens for everything to sink in.

Yeah for sure, I never assess a record off of a single listen unless it's so heinously awful that I'm unwilling to listen to it again lol
I wouldn't say this is catchier than Clayman, but I'm more drawn by guitar work than vocal hooks. Both are appreciated though.

I guess that vocal hooks just get me easier than guitar work, but again that might just be because I listened to this a fair bit when I was first getting into metal a decade ago and memory is sketchy at best, no idea why I never bother listened to the rest of their stuff.

Only for the weak is easily the catchiest song in flames has ever written so idk what you're talking about tbh, the whole album is full of memorable shit

Word, tbf I only checked them out like 6 years after I heard Come Clarity. I was a kid (not even a teen) at the time though.

@Flug Only for the weak is amazing yes, that alongside the closer and Satellites were the stand outs first time round, IMO.
@Swipenet I think I was 12 when I first heard this (and was getting into more extreme music in general having been brought up on grunge, classic and indie rock [I'm English you can't escape it]) but that was also the time I got hopelessly sucked into Maiden and Metallica's back catalogue alongside metalcore, so I guess I just kinda forgot that these guys had loads of other stuff.

Damn, our journeys are pretty similar lol. I was 11 going on 12 when I first heard this. My brother showed me the t/t single which he digged and then showed me "Take This Life" and thought it was funny. He was like 14 tbf. I then got into Spineshank and Trivium and gradually got into more extreme genres. The only CD I owned before then was Meteora lmao

I got into the album because Dead End was on a FFVII advent children amv that I had watched haha.
I don't know how people know what their first CD's were haha, probably doesn't help that me and my mum pretty much just mixed our collections, but out of all the ones that I currently know where they are (i.e. aren't lost) I think the oldest (in terms of when I bought them) ones that I own are BFMV - The Poison, Fall Out Boy - Infinity on High, Linkin Park - Minutes to Midnight and Gorillaz - Demon Day's. Pretty sure I bought all those within the same 6 month period, and I had discovered piracy pretty early on haha.

My band in high school tried so hard to cover the title track for a school concert but we couldn't pull it off lol

Lol those AMV's are everywhere. Yeah let's be real, the majority of music is pirated, and I'm sure the vast majority of us here pirate our music. I will support bands I really like through other means though, and they're generally more profitable for the artists anyways.
Which part(s) couldn't you guys pull off bloc?

Yeah I generally always try to go to gigs of bands that are doing cool stuff, unfortunately money only stretches so far so I don't get to go to as much stuff as I'd really like.

"Which part(s) couldn't you guys pull off bloc?"
For me, it was always the acoustic/clean bits like the intro and verse and shit. I was never good at that chord stuff. But even if I could do it half assed, putting it all together as a band was the biggest hurdle.
We ended up ditching it and doing Dance Dance by Fall Out Boy lmao
