I mean sure, but they don't sound like that.

If I didn't know this band and heard black mass on the radio, I would never think "pop punk". maybe americana/indie rock

ATP is way "poppier" than this imo, but that's part of the reason I don't think it's nearly as good. Seems and feels way more generic. Still has lots of highlights, but nowhere close to this. (Though I've been recently feeling this is more of a 4.5 than 5.0, but can't bring myself to downgrade yet.)

Yeah, sterile production, more pop styled song structures, less interesting instrumentation...theyre better when theyre not relying on simply being catchy. Still love ATP though.

production on ATP is flawless, call that sterile if you want, I call it balanced (as everything should be)
Once you get into audio engineering you realize how freaking impossible it is to achieve sound that pristine (especially as a relatively low key band) it’s damn impressive.

im sure it does take a lot of skill, i just dont find it to be a very good sound. the production on this has much more personality. even Rented World still has feedback and kept some of the imperfections, which i like.

Idk it just hits man. I definitely listen to a band of this style for the sound rather than the lyrics, and to me ATP took all the talent they show on this album musically, and makes it shine under perfect production.

And for the straight up fact that you can hear more musical nuances in a “sterile” production over a muddy production. Muddy production is almost never intentional.

If this album had the production quality of ATP I’d definitely like it more.

yeah but this is pop punk lol, there arent many nuances to pick up on, it doesnt need uber clean production. i can pick up on everything perfectly fine on this record. i like my punk with a bit of rawness to it, whether its intentional or not.

I, for one, love the power of properly mixed, full-bodied vocal, drum and guitar tracks. It’s just satisfying.

i dont think ATP sounds bad production wise but yea that pristine quality def aint my favourite type. Rented World has a pretty cool sound quality vibe (In Remission is one of my favourite songs of the decade and the production has a lot to do with that)
