This has a longer lasting effect than Fortress. It has better songwriting/storytelling but isn't as polished as Fortress.
It's my favourite PTH album and the only one I still find myself listening to from start to finish.

well i'll def check it out

yeh, i have no clue which one is better.
i love them both so much.
fortress was a 5 for about a month before i brought it down to a 4.5

Fortress is a lot more varied. This sounds far too samey to be better.
|
| |
yeah Fortress is a 4.5 for me too Klek...so it sounds like i'll love this :-)
|
| |
Fortress is better in every way possible, but I like this CD much better. I don't even know why.
Give it time. It's a grower.
|
| |
i'll do that. in fact, that's what i'm currently doing with BTBAM's Colors...it's finally starting to sink in.

I find that Kezia is just a better listen. I can listen to the whole album through, while on Fortress gets a bit samey, but it is still awesome.

Fortress is better in every way possible
Except replay value, songwriting, lyrics, concept, repetition (or lack of), cohesiveness....
|
| |
haha so you and Dougie are both Kezia fans, Klek has both this and Fortress at the same level, and Caleb thinks Fortress is better and yet likes this more?
and i already love Fortress to death?!?
sounds like this just moved to the top of my list :-)

idk, ninjuice has pretty awesome opinions, and since mine is the same, this is better.
|
| |
Don't like it as much as Fortress. Too much inane technicality and Rody doesn't sound as good.
Still a good album, but nowhere near the amazingness of Fortress. The Goddess tracks are absolutely
incredible.
@ninjuice: Wtf, lol? How is the songwriting on this better than Fortress? Seems like a blatant step in
the right direction. Guess that's just me.

How is the songwriting on this better than Fortress?
I'm not sure how to explain it really. They just seemed to have more awesome ideas i.e. the spoken word part and ending to "Turn Soonest to the Sea", climaxes in tracks 2 and 3, use of female vocals, ending to "Blindfolds Aside", etc.
Where are Brent, Nate or Mr. Rizzo when you need em?

Fortress is still an awesome album (although I'm starting to think it's mainly because I'm a guitarist), but from a songwriting standpoint...the concept of this record is just really well executed and all the songs and ideas are tied together extremely well (something which Fortress sort of lacks since it doesn't really have a defined concept). To be honest there are a few points where I feel Fortress even gets a bit tacky, which doesn't doesn't really happen here.
|
| |
tacky... thats the only downfall of Fortress for me.

It actually does but I don't remember exactly what it is. Something like a bunch of villagers on the run from either a forest god or vengeful king. Idk.
