No matter how my musical taste is going at a given point in my life, I will always go back to this album and be beyond perplexed as to how anyone thinks its not absolutely terrible. This is my 3rd try or so by now I believe.

You only like it more cause you ARE SAFE. It’s awesome, but it’s just a really good blues rock album. This is otherworldly.

I feel like only half of this is otherworldly, a quarter is really good, and the the rest is a bit boring

@Ars I appreciate all sorts of music, metal is just mostly what I listen to. No need to be rude.

@MillionDead I had to bring the convo here from gorgoroth, I knew you would show up too lol. Think the gents here would appreciate my story of how this album was made?

Oh yeah, Beefheart basically forcibly shoved some impressionable young people in a house for months and taught them all of this music from an out of tune piano, despite not really knowing the theory going on in these songs at all? Dude was an asshole but a visionary as well.

Experimental rock? Lots of very off kilter moments crafted through the languages of blues rock and free jazz. There'll be moments where everybody is playing parts in different times and different keys. Tons lopsided grooves and weird poly-harmony. Kind of unrecognizable from any rock people did before or after. I liken it to the work of some 20th century modernist composers in its transgressiveness.
