I would mostly agree but Last Day Of Winter always has me emotionally invested.

@Nick Last day of winter is indeed one of the best Pelican song. And closing 2 tracks, those has such an ethereal atmosphere.

About clowns and dudes, well that's just my thougts about bands i listened many years, and yes i listened to Melvins, i had no idea you can directly compare Pelican with them. Melvins is one of the favourite Aaron T. bands, and he mentioned them as inspiration, so i can understand where you come from. Still does not change the fact that Pelican lacks something compared to titans.

yes "titans", even though Turner already bested some Isis records with other projects

I definitely prefer this band and COL when it comes to emotion. There Are days when I prefer the brutal and bleak emotion Neurosis is all about but I gotta be in the mood for that stuff.

Also Aaron T is still going strong agreed. Old Man Gloom is amazing.

FoE ought to be on the short list with Neurosis/Isis/Cult of Luna

I enjoyed SUMAC way more than Old Man Gloom, though old man gloom has very strange atmosphere to their records, and ambient side is really strong there. On other hand i amazed of what SUMAC can do with 3 people on stage - this is damn heavy band, it reminds me a lot of Celestial era, but at the same time it's not Isis. Aaron T has matured since, so his voice and ability to create heavy music out of nowhere. New album should be a blast.

Bloody hell trying to write music with your band when listening to mammoth albums like this, The Mantle, Biomech, Blackwater Park etc just leaves you with a 'where the hell do we start and how could we possibly measure up to these sort of albums' type feeling. Granted these are all critically aclamed albums but I suppose its better to aim high
