"Am I the only one hearing an ear-bleeding, dog whistle-like frequency whenever the vocals come in on this album? I've gotten like 3 different rips of this off slsk and had the same issue with all of them..."
Okay so I'm not going crazy. Bothers the fuck out of me every time I try to get into this. Shame cause some of these songs are really awesome.

First time checking these guys out, and I’m just going chronologically.
Maybe it’s the hype but I’m a little underwhelmed by this. Three listens through so I’ll give it at least a half dozen spins, could very well catch on after a listen or two. Some highlights like Timberwolves, There’s no I in Team and the opening track…but I can’t but feel it’s kindof same-y overall. Is that just me? Still a pretty good album but too much blurs in to the next song (but not in that good seamless, cohesive way).

Yeah I’ve seen both opinions. And it seems that most people who consider this their best were the perfect age when it came out. I was about 21, but I was still just listening to all the great 90s metal/hard rock bands. Audioslave was soon after too I believe. I just wasn’t into this type of music, aside from blink 182. But in recent years I’ve discovered that I love emo—from SDRE to Mineral to Brand New. Started listening to TWIABP too and they’re great. Harmlessness is nearly perfect.
And then others tend to see this album as a springboard, a structure that they honed and finessed in the next decade or so. So I may very well prefer some of their other albums. At any rate, I’ll post my thoughts on each album as I go (TBS and TWIABP).

his and louder now are top 2 for me
Yeah it seems to run the gamut. First 3 are widely considered their best. But I actually saw many people who ranked Louder at the bottom or near bottom (probably those douchebags who thought they sold out) and quite a few people who rank Tidal Wave at or near the top.

i love louder now. its my favorite of the old albums, but tidal wave and happiness is are their best for me. sapone did those two albums so you might get something out of those as a brand new fan, but theyre def not as bleak lol

part of it is just that Lazzara's early vocals struck a chord with me that i didn't really get from later works - he's noticeably toned back the melodramatic emotion.

feel like the scale bsck of the emo vocals was balanced out by an upgrade in the lyricism (but also, he cannot do them anymore lmao). maybe if this adam wrote songs like better homes and gardens but ultimately it means the later stuff j hits way harder for me there too. adam may sound young as fuck here but hes also writing like it lmao
ofc its all gone to shit now that theyre trying to sound like theyre 20 again
