they never topped this
though I do think The Seer comes awfully close (the title track on The Seer didn't need to be 32 minutes though; and personally, I hope whatever they do next isn't two hours)

I really don't enjoy the Seer, I find the whole concept/aesthetic pretty cheesy and obvious too

I personally find it to be very sufficient mood-wise
The whole post-rock thing got really overblown these past three albums and while I'm fine with the whole "repeat a riff and nothing else for five minutes before progressing", that formula has officially worn out its welcome.

a lot of variety on the last three albums though, The Seer and To Be Kind are almost nothing alike, and a good chunk of The Glowing Man (the first CD, to be precise) is also very fresh. I agree though that 4th album would probably be too much.
I can understand the "obvious" complaint but cheesy? Where? Were there some power metals passages in there I overlooked?

A nice, short forty minute album like My Father would be incredibly refreshing
hell, even an hour long album sounds better

apparently sput feels the same way cuz the averages have been worse each time since the seer

"why would you start with Filth"
hmmm wasn't it like their first album dunno
also +1 to shorter albums provided gira knows what tracks to throw out. for example if the glowing man was just the first CD it would be a masterpiece, if it was the second CD however it would be a disaster

This album is exhausting to listen to honestly.

Alt, why u gotta be sassy
Glowing Mane would've been mint if he threw out Frankie M and When Will I Return?

I found the whole of the Seer really campy, one great big pagan chanting eye roll. Probably another 'tongue in cheek' album but again, just way too long an in-joke for me.
Possibly an album you have to come to as a fully signed up fanclub member to love. Going in cold...found it naff

"Glowing Mane would've been mint if he threw out Frankie M and When Will I Return?"
and the title track, and "Finally, Peace" yes. (and "People Like Us")
also i do not know the answer to that question

"Possibly an album you have to come to as a fully signed up fanclub member to love. Going in cold...found it naff"
seems like it would be the case but the hype train for the seer brought a lot of newcomers to swans

'Lunacy, lunacy'...and so begins the longest and least entertaining Monty Python song in existence.
I'm totally blown away by how incredible this album is though, seems like the creativity was limitless at this stage and nothing here outstays it's welcome.

I bought this on vinyl today. The gatefold sleeve folds out into a braille essay on bullshit.
