Devious movements in your eyes
Moved me from relief
Breath comes out white clouds with your lies
And filters through me
You're close to the final word
You're staring right past me in dismay
A liquid seeps from your chest
And drains me away
One of my favorite parts of any song ever. This Message Edited On 10.02.08This Message Edited On 10.02.08

That's my bad, I meant Drapery doesn't progress.
What? What 'Drapery Falls' song were you listening to? The only one I know of has so many amazing dynamics to it. I think there is some retarded trend going on here, where it's the 'cool thing' to hate this album because of it's well deserved praise.
Bfhurricane,
Listening to Mikael sing those lyrics a week ago almost brought a tear to my eye hahahaha.

I don't hate this album, I just don't think it's anywhere near "perfect". In fact, I'm in love with Still Life and I don't find that anywhere near perfect either. This album gets well deserved praise. Just not from me. Bleak is the only song I bother to listen to in it's entirety off this. Sometimes the title track.
And I think the reason I'm feeling that it doesn't "progress" as much as most Opeth songs is cause it ends exactly how it begins. Besides most of the stuff in between that is kind of boring and lifeless anyway. Much like most of this album. It's still great. But I prefer the much more inspired and evocative feel of Still Life, Watershed, and even Ghost Reveries.

ghost reveries seems to be underrated here

Fair enough Angel. Your reasoning is at least sound hahaha.
cause it ends exactly how it begins.
Isn't that nice though, when a song ties itself together well?

Ghost Reveries is about as underrated as this is overrated. So not much, but it's noticeable.
What exactly do we mean by "under" and "over" ratted, again? o_o
I guess it can be, but I've come to both expect and appreciate something different from Opeth. The Lotus Eater is the first that comes to my mind that changes up really nicely over the course of the song. This Message Edited On 10.02.08

bleak has grown on me SO much since i first heard it
so has this album... its perfection

It requires patience, and a keen musical ear: there's really no point in listening to Opeth if you're not going to really listen to them
I wholesomly agree. When I first got this I was like... it's good. Then I listened to it casually and thought, yeah it's definently good. Then I started listening to it religously... then it got OMG GREAT!!!!!! Hervest, The Drapery Falls, Dirge For November are the highlights but really, it's all just ing amazing!!

Most good metal requires attentive and involved listening, though perhaps Opeth benefits a bit more from multiple plays.
