I was talking about CtS, when my friend made me sit through it, I thought it was good technically but

it really put me off knowing they can play like this

Well yeah, CtS is pretty good, but lacks the sludginess of the first 3. I need to jam it more though and see if it grows on me.

A very general way of putting it.

This one achieved the perfect balance between their two sides imo.

Plus, I love prog myself, and can't say I'm the biggest fan of sludge, but I just feel that the sludge was essential to Mastodon's sound. IMO, they're pretty much naked without it.
