"so you chose a bunch of core bands over TBDM lmfao"
"whole lineup was fire except Oceano"
Sort of conflicting statements there lol, you seemed to be expressing disdain for -core bands in the first.
But aside from DF and Origin (and TBDM but obv I fucked that up) nobody else was good. I don't like Rings of Saturn and I've heard some stuff by some of the others and didn't care for it. Didn't see any of them that night though. Saw some of Oceano's set (think they played when we got there) and yeah they were bad, skipped what was left then saw Origin and DF and then we bounced.

Honestly I think Summer Slaughter is usually hit or miss anyway. 2016 had a good lineup, Suffocation, Revocation, Nile, CC, Krisiun. Krisiun's discog isn't all great but they put on a good show.
Last year's lineup was pretty bad, def worse than 2017's. Didn't bother going to that one. Also recall 2015 being pretty shitty, can't remember the years prior but yeah.

Regarding the core discussion, their first EP kind of fell within that scene, and these guys associated with all of the emerging bands from the core scene back at that time and even after Unhallowed came out. It wasn't until this album that they more effectively broke away.
There were there bands who had a similar issue, the Absence for example were a melodeath band that got associated with a lot of the SOTS-core bands out at the time.
Speaking of the Absence, I haven't seen these guys live since 07 when I saw them with Cannibal Corpse, The Red Chord, and The Absence. It was a good show.
Saw them when they toured in support of Miasma and Unhallowed as well. Contagion will always be one of my favorite jams. So much nostalgia.

Band isn't even close to being deathcore.

Yeah, I never understood this band's association with the scene crowd. Shit always baffled me, especially since there's no deathcore or metalcore of any kind in their discography. If anything, they're a fusion of Swedish melo-death and classic Floridian death metal

And unfortunately, a lot of people in the scene crowd still try to convince me that they're a deathcore band even today

Their merch screams deathcore and $$$

They definitely associated themselves with the early 00s metalcore scene, it wasn’t just a figment of fan’s imaginations. You can’t blame the band - those were the peers they came up with, their friends, and also the obvious way to make money and grow your fan base at the time.
