man relistening to adrenaline and you can clearly see how much of an influence they were on glassjaw, which is insane considering how many bands have ripped those guys off since

It’s not really a song you listen to once. I mean if you do, you’re gonna write it off and say “meh,” but honestly if you loop it like 5 times it’ll stick and you’ll start sinking into it and then be unable to stop listening. Clearly I’m at that part now. I’ve listened probably 100 times this weekend not even exaggerating
Was shocked to see Melonhead liked it. He hasn’t liked anything they’ve ever done. Not even KNY

I also preordered the white vinyl in the purple sleeve. I do love the green but that purple is killer. When I was listening to the drop on YouTube, I was like damn they should’ve done a purple version when I saw it posted on the video. And thankfully… they did.

"man relistening to adrenaline and you can clearly see how much of an influence they were on glassjaw, which is insane considering how many bands have ripped those guys off since"
agreed. that album is way closer to the first glassjaw album than say the first korn album. would not really consider adrenaline a "nu metal" album in the same way around the fur is.

adrenaline has underlying reggae influence that you don’t hear on AtF so it does fit. Whole point of nu metal is metal+_______ genre. Around the Fur just sounds like aggressive alternative metal, skate punk, hardcore punk aside from Be Quiet bringing in the shoegaze compared to the rest of the tracks. That one to me is the least nu metal even though they toured with so many nu metal bands. Having Max Cavalera on the record doesn’t make it nu metal either.

Nu Metal was never a good description for them but just calling them something like alt metal isn't very fulfilling either.

thing is tho that’s what I’d call tool and William era Alice In Chains and none of those bands sound similar, alternative is a weird label

it’s because it’s … alternative

"Nu Metal was never a good description for them"
The mid-'90s, when signed to Maverick, yeah... I'd say they very much were from and a part of that genre. Musically, they branched out after... getting more soundscape-y and letting Chino's Cure/Sade/'80s goth and pop influences play a bigger role in their sound.

we need to find an alternative for alternative
and ya after Around the Fur they weren’t nu metal anymore, and that’s by far the best nu metal record no contest.

Moiré Effect.
"we need to find an alternative for alternative"
Other than a thought exercise, it isn't really a big deal.
Genres are often a loose categorization, useful only as a surface-level guide (sometimes just grouped by the contemporaneous music scene, anyway). At the very least, if your expectations looking at an album sleeve that you were going to listen to a "pop" record, only to be greeted with crashing guitars, a "metal"-like tag would be helpful in this sense.
After that, it's down to the individual bands... and if those groups can be original and mould-breaking beyond these reductive terms, that's a bonus.

It’s a great track tbh, I’m gonna quit listening to it tho and try to resist any other singles they might drop.
Hoping they don’t release anything else, I don’t have that kind of self control
