The Tourist has grown on me a lot since first hearing this, might even be my new favorite on the second half.

Yeah it's a great closer. Love the solo as well.

Lucky is underrated and has a lot of subtle aspects that add to how great it is, like Ed O'Brien's experimental guitar technique and the way it builds in the second half.

I must say I very much disagree with your ranking/ratings Ryus but at least you know that Let Down is the best.

rating lucky & the tourist like that is inexplicable, frankly

those songs were always super similar to me, at least in comparison to the rest of the album

honestly I don't know why they didn't just close with Lucky

it's not like they were strangers to cutting sublime tracks from their albums or anything

One of only three albums where I think every song is a 5

Left and Leaving and Ritual de lo habitual are the other two

Ranking this album is nigh impossible for me - all I know is that "Exit Music," "Let Down," and "No Surprises" are my top 3 in that order, any ranking from me goes straight to hell after that

Closing with Lucky would be cool but The Tourist works so well as a closer for me.

I think the album needs to have The Tourist as a closer, both structurally and thematically. It really closes the circle opened by Airbag, I mean lyrically you can even view The Tourist as a precursor to Airbag.

Both are amazing but The Tourist feels the most like a closer on here

I don't particularly want The Tourist gone I'm just kind of surprised it's on the record, given how mercilessly they cut the thing (how many bands could get away with cutting songs as strong as "Pearly" & "Palo Alto" ?)

but yeah if we're gonna relate it to Airbag I think Lucky actually has a pretty good parallel as well, tho more of an aftermath thing than a precursor

I see what you're saying, but to me Lucky has the perfect feel for a penultimate track, going big before the closer goes small. Lucky might have been too epic to properly serve as a closer (plus I think The Tourist is a better song anyways so ending with it is better).
